I was unable to attend last night's SLAS meeting. In reviewing the presenter's powerpoint, I didn't see anything about winter time access to the lead candidate Mt. Dutton site. Hi Rob, I was at wolf creek last night. When I arrived around 9:00 it was pretty breezy, but it died down and by 11:30 it was dead still. Suddenly around 12:30 it really kicked up with a very damp wind. It blew so hard my truck actually shook. It made observing less joyful and by about 3:00 I decided to head home. Nevertheless, the sky was beautiful with no clouds. The light from SLC makes for a permanent twilight-like glow now (probably exacerbated by the higher-than-normal air pollution in the valley), but at the site the air was fresh and pleasant (combination of the scent of pines and the "after-a-rain" scent from the wind). Without the wind the temperature felt great for observing and I only used a windbreaker over my sweatshirt. Hale-Bopp info

Does anyone have a url handy for a chart showing the night-by-night path of Hale-Bopp? I'm trying to date the dozens of photos that I shot; I have long-ago lost my exposure notes...I can't believe that it's been over ten years. I have that large paperback that was published, but it's buried in my basement somewhere and I can't lay my hands on it quickly. I also dug out my 1997 Observers Handbook, it does have an abbreviated ephemeris for Hale-Bopp that I could plug into my planetarium program, but I'm hoping that someone else already has such a chart site bookmarked and you can save me some searching and keyboarding. TIA

Comet LINEAR (C/2006 VZ13) is now easily visible, see the Sky and Telescope article at http://www.skyandtelescope.com/observing/highlights/8415427.html . I enjoyed seeing it in 7x35 binoculars the last two nights from dark skies. The first night I was in the Uintas, the second night I was in Tooele Valley between Fairfield and Faust. Photo op - Sunset Monday - Moon, Venus, Regulus, Saturn 7 deg

At sunset on Monday, the Moon, Venus, Regulus, and Saturn will be within a 7 deg swath. The 2.6 day aged Moon should be displaying Earthshine. This may present a good wide-angle photo-op.
