This is slightly off-topic: I am looking to provide dial-up service to few rural towns outside of our local dialing area. These are *small* rural communities, 20, 30, and 60 miles away from our main office. I seriously doubt any of these communities will ever need more than 96 dial-up lines, and many will start out with just 24-48 lines. Because of their size, I don't particularly want to put a Total Control Chassis in a closet somewhere. I envision doing the following: 1. Having CT1s longhauled back to our main office so everything can be in a centralized location. Each of these towns are in US Worst's area except for one, so I don't see any type of foreign exchange fee between telcos. The one independent telco was going to charge us a small foreign exchange fee to link with US Worst. I know I will have to pay mileage fees on all the lines. My question is, how distance sensitive is a CT1? Has anyone else done this? Would a CT1 running 60 miles between telcos offer quality 56k access? I'm guessing the answer is "can't get there from here" unless it's modem calls. I'm interested in the calling number info that is coming in on the PRI. I can view a modem call and get the calling number info, but not on ISDN, which is all I'm running. Trying performance monitor on the T1, nothing there like it. Using a Netserver with das Munich daughterboard und dual T1, works really quite well. Might be a mighty cheap way for some of you to do ISDN only traffic for dedicated customers. You can do the Dual PRI& Netserver in same chassis as with a HiperARC & DSP's. Neat. I'm also wondering whether I can get via radius accounting that "calling number" from a Netserver/or is it NMC??? (usr-tc) Hung Modems/What to do?

Much of the discussion over the past few days has been quite interesting, but what are people doing with the modem+neighbor modem hung problem in the field? We have many of our new DSPs doing this (2-4 DSPs running CT1 and PRI). Also, we have had DSPs on PRI's hang the d-channel or T1 carrier as well (maybe telco here). Running 2.0.81 HDM and 4.1.59-6 ARC code. BTW: Anyone at 3Com going to take us up on that offer for a meeting? I am in a bit of a situation and need some advice/help on how to "fix it". Basically bellsouth, in a very rural town, installed us 3 CT1 circuits. We ordered these all provisioned the same. They had to reprovision them multiple times, because they couldn't get it right, and its really costed me alot of time, and our customers alot of patience in that particular pop. So, finally Bell is saying the provisioned right. I am not able to complete call on it however, the calls arrive, but don't complete. Smells of a bad start type to me........I can plug the other 2 CT1's into that same equipment and it works fine (3 hdm's all configured the same, 3 CT1's all configured the same). So basically, on Tuesday, I am having to go onsite with a bunch of engineers, which I know is just going to be one big pissing contest. I have assembled a list of information off the chassis/dsp's, to help me battle this, but I don't know if perhaps I am leaving out something critical that can really be of help. Some of the info I got is: Trunk Settings This shows all 3 CT1's configured identical Timeslot Service Configuration This shows all 3 CT1's channels inService Performance Monitor Physical States - All 3 psF1Operational Line Status - All 3 "1" No Idle Modem Available - All 3 "0" Transmit / Receive Carrier Levels The good channels all show about 1820 transmit and 1820 receive. The third CT1 shows 0 for transmit and 0 for receive Incoming Connecions established vs. terminated Good spans show about 900 for these Third span shows very messed up numbers for these Signal to Noise Ratios Third span shows signal to noise at like 65536!!! Whats the best data to throw at the telco? And as if this isn't enough. The 3 CT1's are in a hunt, first available. This town takes very few calls. But I can watch literally 5-10 calls per second come in on CT1 #3, yet 1 and 2 have idle channels! The amount of calls arriving on span3 HAVE to be a call simulator that the telco has hooked up to the line to test it........something they are doing without my permission, and something they are denying, I think they left it turned on and forgot to turn it off. At the end of the day, spans1 and 2 saw like maybe 500 calls, and span3 has seen like 50,000 calls. This is in an area with about 300 customers........sigh. I have no way of even dialing into span3, its only got 1 DID into the hunt. Hello- A while back I posted a message(and have seen other posts) in regards to getting bytes transferred & sent per session via the command line interface on a hiperarc/hiperdsp based box. At that time the code for that feature was in an engineering release(?). I'm curious if that code has been released and I missed it(which could very easily happen) or if that is forthcoming and roughly when it would be available? I know this was raised once before with no answer, but does anyone know of any problems/solution using this adapter? One client gets maximum 3KB/s download (on both channels) and it inevitably hangs (stops moving data) after 1 to 20 minutes. (usr-tc) Radius Effects...

While we're all talking about Radius, we currently send the following attributes to our TC for our default user: Framed-IPAddress = 255.255.255.254 Framed-Routing = None We recently signed up with Ziplink for wholesale nationwide dialup. A lot of their equipment is Bay. They claim that when the Bay receives these attributes, it chokes. It allows the connection, and the modem connect speed is fine, but throughput is horrible. Over 50% of the packets drop, and after a few minutes, the call will drop. They say we need to remove these attributes from the Radius profile we send. Huh? Bay doesn't like these 2 *basic* attributes? They also said they don't like 'Port-limit=1', but I am NOT removing that one. For this one, they state that they have trouble with the Bay doing 128K ISDN anyway, so removing the attribute will have no effect. Double "huh?" My question is, what effect will this have on our local dialup customers connecting to our TC? Will the TC happily work without receiving those 2 attributes? We are currently not running RIP on the TC (we are small, so everything is static) - but we plan on enabling RIPv2 shortly. Will the TC start sending RIP updates to the dialup clients without the Framed-Routing=none attribute set? They also have some Max's out there, but a good portion of it's Bay. I don't know of any way to have my Radius server send a different profile to their proxy, so it has to be the same one I send to my TC.
