No actually I'm trying to make our FamilySafeInternet service work locally. It is working fine at each of our locations because the gateway router tunnels over to the R2000/Xstop filter. But locally on our main pop we can't do that since that causes a loop (gateway router sends traffic over to R2000 which requests a web page for that users IP which goes to the gateway router and the cycle starts all over again). Normal dialup customers use the default route: 0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0 gateway 216.41.128.1 Family Safe Customers need to use a different default route: 0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0 gateway 216.41.128.24 I was thinking that you could send a gateway to the arc for by Radius. Check into the Internet Equal Access (IEA) feature. Basically let's you set up per-user default routes. how do you mirror a hiperDSP configuration?

For those of you saw my previous post, thanks for the help. I figured out that my NMC didn't have an IP assigned to it, but the ARC did. Here is my dilema... I'm trying to accomplish two things. I had six hiperDSP cards in the chassis and I just added a seventh. I'm having a hard time figuring out why this card refuses to sync with the PRI. Is there an easy way to take the configuration from one or all of the existing hiperDSP cards and mirror it on to the seventh card? Second, now that I have the TCM working, how can I change the IP address of the ARC? The TC is in IP space I need to renumber out of ASAP, which is my biggest dilema. If there is a command line option to renumber it that might work easier I'd opt for that, but I am under the impression it's easier to accomplish this through the TCM. UST TC1000 and 'Level 3 alarm'

This morning one of my pops running TC1000 with HyperArc V5.09 NMC V7.1.8 and DSP V2.1.85 started returning all circuits are busy errors. I called the CO and they told me 3 of my PRIs are returning a 'Level 3 failure alarm' After reseting the cards and waiting for the 5E switch on their end to see that I did that (took about 3 minutes) the cards came back, the alarm was gone and the all circuits are busy error went away. Now I know I wasn't full up to capacity because this is a new pop with 299 lines, and there are only about 16 people testing it for me right now. My question is, anyone know what causes this? IP compression problem on TC1000

We have had a problem start to crop up with ISDN customers using Netopia ISDN routers. We have been using ISDN routers for years, and have not updated any code or settings on our TC in over a year. Our HARC code is 4.1.59. Basically, we had customers using Netopia ISDN calling in telling us they cannot get their router to connect. When we 'mon ppp' during the connection, there is some sort of battle going on between the Netopia and the TC over compression. There is a stream of COMPRESSION_TYPE REQ and NAKS going back and forth. We then went into the Netopia and changed the compression method back and forth between Ascend and Stac, with no definitive conclusion. Usually after 2 or 3 power cycles, the router does connect. And sometimes after it connects and has been online for a while, it simply stops passing regular IP traffic (you can still ping it and telnet into it). I called Netopia, and after they talked to their engineers, I got this email: "I don't have the specifics regarding the Total Control compression issues. What I have found out is that the Netopia, if it is set for one type of compression, will not try a different compression, even if the NACK request from the upstream device requests a different type of compression. So, if your 3COM Access Server is set to only accept Ascend Compression, set the Netopia for Ascend Compression." I was wondering if anyone here has come across this issue. How do I verify what compression settings the TC has? Is there some setting that is forcing the TC to ONLY attempt a single compression type? Maybe someone here has found a solution for this. The Netopia routers in question are running firmware 4.8.2 - Netopia says updating the firmware does not appear to resolve this issue on their end. TIA, Scot

assigning new ip, new card/slot, ospf

Hi everyone.... I tried to find this in the history/archives, but I couldn't. I've acquired a 3com TC rack with six hiper arcs in it (I think?) We're running 6 PRI into the cards and providing dialup/isdn. We have one more card I'd like to add to that group. I have the TCM software, but I've just given up on that. For some reason I can't get TCM to recognize or login to the unit. (Its version 6.?? and this is the newer 3com chassis) I'm sure there has to be a way to easily "mirror" one of the configurations for the existing cards and include card 7 (and then card 8) into the existing pool? More importantly, I need to reconfigure the IP on this thing. I know the network eth:1 is associated with is "usr2", but I can't figure out how to re-assign that IP address. Any pointers on this? As a final issue, I am interested in adding this unit to the OSPF area with the Cisco(s). This might be an issue on it's own (and I admit, I havn't looked at the archives for this and know I saw something in there about it) -- but I'm curious whats involved in disabling RIP, enabling OSPF, and how you define all of the networks and the area. This isnt' anywhere near as important as my first two questions. My most important issue is renumbering the unit itself. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! -Jeff
