Netserver/16 Telnet dial out hangup

I am having trouble with a Netserver/16 that I just got in from another office. I have configured it so the staff can use it to dial out to some of our remote equipment in the field. I followed the instructions per the user manual for configuration of the netserver/16. The users are able to dial out by simply opening a telnet session and issuing atdt command. However, when the close the telnet window it doesn't clear the lines. What I mean by this is when I telnet into the machine for administration and do a 'list active interfaces' the lines show up as being active even though they have closed out. I have tried setting the dial_out idle_timeout and recovery_timeout to 1 and then 0 but still no luck. What am I missing? Is there a better way for the users to dial out, like use some sort of client on the desktop? I am open to suggestions, because the boss is not going to like the phone bill if I don't get this fixed. Hi David, In about a year's time I have seen about 10 cards we have had to get repaired, and most Hiper DSPs when they fail exhibit the Red Rn/Fl and the 4th modem LED go amber regardless of their problem. We currently deal with at least 200 customers using the TC1000. Our TAC supports most of the other large RAS boxes as well and the TC1000 seems to be the hardiest cards out there. Most TC1000 cards seem to be overbuilt considering there are a lot of customers out there of ours that are still running Netserver, EdgeServer and Quads which can be up to 5-6 years old. Hi Scot, I would give TCM a try first, always easier than Z-modem. If that fails, and odds are it will then try the Z-modem. Make sure and Z-modem the same code if possible and if it fails the first time then try it again. Oftentimes it takes us 2-3 times before the code sticks. Seth there are issues with downgrading Hiper DSP's off of v.92 code. The procedure is listed in the release notes for TCS 4.5. If you do not follow the procedure you will ruin your card and it will have to be repaired by Commworks. If you don't have the release notes use the following procedure. Downgrading Code You may find it necessary to revert back to Total Control 1000 Release 4.3 code on either the DSP multispan card or the HiPer DSP card. Follow these steps to revert back: 1 Flash to Total Control 1000 4.3 compatible code. (Previous versions are not usable until the card successfully loads/boots 3.1.x code.) 2 Before you upload the code you must log into the console, or telnet, and enter the following commands: chdev mdm1 at-re1 3 After the prompt returns, initiate the code download as usual and reboot when it is completed. Problem with HiperDSP card

I have a HiperDSP card in a TC chassis that appears to have failed over the weekend. The RN/FL light was red, and the FOURTH utilization bar LED from the bottom was AMBER. I moved the card to another slot, and it worked OK for 2 days, and failed again. I left the card unplugged overnight, and plugged it back into the same slot this morning. It is now working again. But obviously something is wrong. I know that a red RN/FL is no good, but does the 4th utilization bar being amber mean anything? Any tests or settings I should check while the card is in an operational state? Not ever having a DSL go bad on me, what is the best course of action -- attempt to have Commworks repair it, replace it with a used card, ??? Card is about 2.5 years old. Thanks, Scot

Configuring the Hiper DSP for DNIS

Hi there. I am trying to configure my Hiper-DSP on a E1/PRI line to accept calls based on the number dialed. I have entered the following entries at the DSP console for each of the modems: ats47.4=0 at%cn1=********* (the 9 digit number dialed into) at%ci1=ATS81=0S76=0 (the init string for the modem) However, I am still picking up calls on all incoming calls made to the DSP with no restrictions on the dialed number. proxy accounting info from 3com/NT to a Cistron/Linux server

Hello list! I have a 3com Total Control Hub as my NAS which authenticates some users from an NT server running 3com Security Accounting Server. This server proxyies a certain realm called 'foo' to a Linux server running Cistron RADIUS. So normal users who dial in with just their usernames are authenticated by NT, while users@foo are authenticated by Linux/Cistron RADIUS. In order to limit multiple logins for users of the foo realm, the Cistron server needs to have accounting information proxied to it from the NT server. I made sure to put the IP and secret of the Linux server under the 'RADIUS clients' tab of the 3com SAS Database manager program. Also in the 'advanced features' button, i configured the 'RADIUS Proxy and Tunnel Domains' with the realm name, the auth IP and port, and the acct IP and port. do i need a tunnel name? i did all this and ran a sniffer between the NT and the Linux machines. Plenty of traffic on port 1645 (RADIUS Auth) but none on 1646 (RADIUS Acct). Has anyone sucessfully done what i am trying to do? Any suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks list! --g

Stephen, I got 3.5.100 from one of the Source-T techs right after it was released so I never used the inital 4.5 release for DSP. As far as I know the 3.5.100 release fixes some MAJOR issues with winmodems and that's about all I know right now. In fact, the tech told me that winmodems almost don't work at all on the first release... I know this code has been delayed since like November of last year but I would have thought that 3Com would have at LEAST tested their own modems with it... I don't see 3.5.100 in the 3Com software matrix so I'm guessing it's not an officeal release yet, just an update.
