UPDATE: I have been working with Charles Sprickman as of late on technical projects and he has offered to help out with the web page scripting. It will be a basic format with so far the following info in detail: Suggestions or concerns....dont be shy this is about you :) Publicly there will only be access to general info: # of companies, # of ports, popular software revision and or whatever you guys think. Questions....

I recently aquired a TC1000.... I know nothing about it... no manual's.. no software came with it... It has the following cards in it: HiPer DSP Card (two of them) Quad V.34 Modem Analog/Dig Modem EdgeServer Pro HiPer NMC PSU (two of them) Can anyone give me more info on any of these items? I've tried to get into them via the Console cable off the back of the unit, but I don't think it uses the same cable as the Cisco's do.... or someone reset the baud rate on the ports and it's not the default. The EdgeServer Pro currently runs NT 4.0... is this needed for correct operation of the unit? I've seen unit's like this w/o the EdgeServer in them, and they work just fine I am told. I'm wanting to replace NT with Linux or BSD on it for DNS Cache in the unit is why I ask. What are the HiPer DSP Cards capable of? I'm use to Cisco and Lucent (Ascend) equipment... first timer on a TC unit. Thanks for the info!!

Telnet failure

Greetings, all... I have what may be a stupid little problem. I cannot telnet to one of my HiPerARCs. I was able to slip in through my back-door console port and here's what message I get when trying to telnet: arc7B> At 19:24:26, Facility "Telnet", Level "CRITICAL":: CLI process could not be spawned. problem in two simultaneous login(Winnt/2k/9x)

HI, If one user( test ), First logon through windows2000/NT , and than same user tries to login through win9x He is not able to login ( on the same TC1000 ) If user test first login through win9x and than through win2k/NT than he is able to login on both win2k/nt/9x (on the same TC1000 ). What should be the problem ?? Thanks pankaj

TC filter

Hello: I created the filters and then applied is as well, but still doesn't work. This is the filter that i created. The filter was saved as email.fil.in and email.fil.out. #filter IP: 001 AND udp-dst-port = 53; 002 ACCEPT dst-addr = 192.168.1.3; 003 AND udp-dst-port = 53; 004 ACCEPT dst-addr = 192.168.1.4; 005 AND tcp-dst-port = 25; 006 ACCEPT dst-addr = 192.168.1.6; 007 AND tcp-dst-port = 110; 008 ACCEPT dst-addr = 192.168.1.3; 009 DENY; Then used command "add filter email.fil.in" and "add filter.fil.out" to add the filters to the filter table. Then from radius applied this filter to a user. When the user comes online the sessions shows the filter being applied, but the user can browse and do everything just like normal user. Below is the session. Console port for the HiperArc

I have read the manual, have the 3com cable, checked the dip switches. They are both 9600, 8N1. Still can't connect to either of my two HiperArc's via the console. I can telnet but I want the console to work in case anything really strange goes on. I am able to use the console port on all of my DSP's and my NMC without a problem. Well, there you go! Take something negative and irritating, but surely with some merit (catchall "whining" to this list), and turn it into something good, a collective with some clout, that is, if all the "whining" is digested into something clear, concise, and presented in a professional way, you-betchya, could actually get some things done. An idea I had thought of, in conjunction with this coop/union/web site idea was to survey the list members: What versions of things ARE you running, and how happy are you with that version. Better info perhaps, instead of just one or two comments, that say, 80% are saying TCS 4.5 is working well. 95% of people using TCS 4.3 (x thousand ports) say that works well for them. Etc....some collective data and bug reporting that Commworks isn't going to publish. Lends itself to a website/database kind of thing. Also: time is money, real interest in spending useful time takes some money. I would (as others should indicate) pay an annual fee to a someone, organization to lobby Commworks on my behalf. An "ombudsman" "liason" "lobbyist" between Commworks and the small ISP community. Yeah, we use your stuff, yeah we basically like it (vs. a sharp stick in the eye?), but here are the things you need to work on. As put in a firm professional way, backed by X thousands of ports. One could not expect, shall we suggest, a Steve Rivera to do this on his own time for free, unless he has a lot of free time, and is independently wealthy and quite altruistic. None of which I would guess applies to ANY of the people on this list (hey, this isn't the Rose Colored Glasses list). I also wouldn't expect much of anything really to get done with nothing but "free" "volunteer" labor, either. Set out a charter, this is what's expected (time-wise, access-wise, function-wise), this is the formula to be a part of it, write out a check for $x and drive on. And if you're too cheap to join, but are happy to reap the rewards, "Guido" will make a personal visit to you and see what can be arranged. :^). Most especially if you are an "all bitch all the time" type person! My buck and a quarter's worth. I probably get some change back. Other ideas to ponder as a part/separate/what are you smoking Scott - "vacation" support: Who can my semi-knowledgeable tech call on for help when I'm in Amsterdam trying to unwind? Not Commworks, that's a big huge support contract, and not the same helpful attitude of someone else in the business-Commworks: "check your configuration" as the answer to pretty much all questions. 99% sure the call isn't going to happen, anyway, but if it does, I'd be willing to pay X as an "availability" and Y/hour/minute/incident for actual use. - Now you really wonder what I'm smoking: A business where you arrange for trips for busy network support people that need to stay somewhat available even while on vacation; the "Amsterdam office" has a nice (net) intelligent person in a nice apartment where you rent for X, he/she front ends calls, Internet and all your pre-arranged tools are available (or bring your laptop), you get handed a Euro-pager and/or Euro cellphone to reach you while you're tooling around Europe, but you're contacted <only> in a qualified emergency. Now how much would you pay TO get away? Cake and eat it too. Thoughts I've had post screaming into the phone at $8/minute from CanCun when the Router That Always Works locks up 10 minutes into the vacation, and the person with my pager ignores the pages for the entire time I'm gone. What you're likely running into is that the Win2k,NT logon has MPPP turned on -- and as the 2nd login comes in, it's trying to bond it to the first. I don't know that we ever figured out how to turn this off on the Win2k/NT machine, just identify the situation and get people moved to different logons for Win2k/NT. That drove us nuts on a particular account for a good 2 weeks until we started doing a 'monitor ppp' and had MPPP negotiations going on for the 2nd session. If on another TCS1000 unit, not doing MPPP across chassis, well, no problemo. The Win2k/NT'r can sit and wait for that 2nd session (with the same username that is) all it likes. Some o' the smarter folks here on this list can probably indicate a way of making sure MPPP is shut off either--or both at the Win side or the TCS side- for the session. Radius attribute?
