Do I have to tell a story Of a thousand rainy days since we first met? It's a big enough umbrella But it's always me that ends up getting wet Love that man's lyrics so much. Also, I think Stew and Andy are responsible for some under-rated gems. I love how in Does Everyone Stare, the couplets go from funny to heartfelt: I never noticed the size of my feet Until I kicked you in the shins and I wanna write you a sonnet but I don't know where to start I'm so used to laughing at the things in my heart Also, little-mentioned song Someone To Talk To is a lyrical gem. From String's solo career I'd pick the opening phrase of "The Pirate's Bride":
"Sometimes in the light / at the edge of the world / is the ghost of a ship / with its black sails furled." Love that image. But "Tea In The Sahara" is my complete favorite (even if the lyrics are distilled from a passage in The Sheltering Sky). Mitch
I agree, Someone To Talk To is brilliant, as are a lot of Stewart's lyrics (particularly Darkness, for me). Here are my favorite of the Stinginator's "In this theatre that I call my soul I always play the staring role" "i strained to understand him. I chased his thoughts like birds" "The afternoon has gently passed me by. The evening spreads it's sail against the sky." "There's a blind man looking for a shadow of doubt." And finally, every single word of Synchronicity 2 I absolutely adore. Chris On Oct 11, 2007, at 12:32 PM, Angeline Adams wrote:

I have a friend who would sigh over Paul McCartney's lyric as the greatest: "and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make" which I've always thought is rather naive (in a lifetime!) discussions on the hereafter or reincarnation are for another newsgroup ; ) but I always prefered Sting's simply said there are no victories in all our histories without love this is fun! please keep posting lyrics
Andrea and I both love the last two lines from this verse: Two priests came round our house tonight One young, one old, to offer prayers for the dying To serve the final rite, One to learn, one to teach, Which way the cold wind blows Fussing and flapping in priestly black Like a murder of crows --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The information contained in this communication and any enclosures or attachments may be confidential and/or proprietary. Fred and Andrea - you have quoted my favourite lyrics as well. The whole song blows me away lyrically, but you hit the nail on the head by choosing those particular lines. Also...from the same stunningly beautiful album: "What would it mean to say I loved you in my fashion?" You know, I didn't really even get into thinking about the solo stuff. But this is my all time favorite Sting solo song, and it's another song where I love every single word. Thanks for reminding me. Chris On Oct 11, 2007, at 9:54 PM, Bruce Greenwood wrote:

Once that you've decided on a killing First you make a stone of your heart And if you find that your hands are still willing Then you can turn a murder into art (...) Thankyou for reminding me of the beautiful lyrics to " They Dance Alone." It has been far too long since I have listened to that song. Thankyou again to Sting for making me go and find out who Pinochet was and what happened in Chile the year I was born. There are so many examples of things I know about now that I would have been clueless about if they hadn't been mentioned by that totally hot guy I was fascinated with. The more I learned the more I understood and respected him and his lyrics which were almost always an opportunity to talk about something deeper than your average pop song.
