I believe it was Sum 41 that just did a show here in Minneapolis for $1. Granted, they are not Sting, but they have a sizable following. Gary
Re: [Police] Ticket pricesDon't kid yourself... Sting didn't do it for free, he got paid... the corporate sponsors paid his fee which allowed them to give away tickets. Rarely does a performer play for free! Someone else (Josh?) had it right when they mentioned guarantees going up. They have, and a lot of it has to do with demographics. You won't see the newer, younger bands charging the big prices for tickets, because their fans can't afford it. But all the oldies that have fans like us in our 30's, 40's and more, those of us with decent paying jobs... they know we'll pay top dollar to see our favourite acts from our youth! Then, just to add insult to injury, they'll do tiered pricing which means that the nose-bleed seats cost $70, back of the floor cost $100, and the first 20 rows are $200. And when you get to Sting's status level, like the eagles and stones, etc., you get a guarantee of your portion of the net revenus (and sometimes the gross), so Sting can get his $150,000 a show or whatever hes' charging, and it's the promoter who's got all those costs! It's about ego and greed... and if the Stones Make XXX, and U2 makes XX... then I'm just a notch below them, so I should make X.... then the prices start getting inflated - just like professional sports. If we keep buying the tickets, they'll keep charging what the market will bear - and this may not be a great long term plan when it comes to building an audience, but fore established acts that already have an audience, they fall back on "gotta make hay when it rains" so they get the big bucks now 'cause no one knows how long it will last! There's my $0.02 CDN or about $0.00077 US! :-) Dvid -----Original Message----- From: police-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:police-bounces@mailman.xmission.com]On Behalf Of Jeremy (cheeky) Sent: November 19, 2003 9:36 PM To: Gary Schmitz; police list Subject: Re: [Police] Ticket prices I believe it was Sum 41 that just did a show here in Minneapolis for $1. ** If we are going that route then, Sting played Central Park and Grant park and a host of other places for free. The point was that everyone is complaining about prices, and whether Sting gets paid or not isnt the point, it is what you the consumer has to pay. Please don¹t tell me now that on top of listees not wanting to pay the current prices, that there is also a stipulation that Sting isnt allowed to make money either ?...

Re: [Police] Ticket pricesTo all our English friends on the List..... GO WALLABIES! We beat the Kiwi's and the Poms are next! Mathew I come from a Land down under......!
Barry John, David Campese and Jonny Wilkinson are standing before God at the throne of Heaven. God looks at them and says; "before granting you a place at my side, I must first ask you what you believe in." Addressing Barry John first he asks, "what do you believe?" Barry John looks God in the eye and states passionately, "I believe Rugby to be the food of life in Wales. Nothing else brings such unbridled joy to so many people from the Valleys and Vales. I have devoted my life to bring such joy to people who stood on the terraces of the Cardiff Arms Park supporting their country." God looks up and offers Barry John the seat to his left. He then turns to David Campese , "and you, David , what do you believe?" Campo stands tall and proud, "I believe courage, honour, passion and flair are the fundamentals to life and I've spent my whole playing career providing a living embodiment of these traits." God, moved by the passion of the speech offers Campese the seat to his right. Finally, he turns to Jonny Wilkinson , "and you, Jonny , what do you believe?" "I believe" says Jonny "you're sitting in my seat." -----Original Message----- From: police-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:police-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Mathew Hoffman Sent: 20 November 2003 20:00 To: police list Subject: [Police] Rugby World Cup To all our English friends on the List..... MessageA guy walks into a bar with a dachshund under his arm. The dog is wearing an England rugby jersey and is festooned with England pom-poms. The bartender says, "Hey! No pets are allowed! You'll have to leave." The guy begs him, "Look, I'm desperate! We're both big fans, the TV's broken at home, and this is the only place around where we can see the game. After securing a promise that the dog will behave, and warning him that he and the dog will be thrown out if there's any trouble, the bartender relents and allows them to stay in the bar and watch the game. The big game begins with the poms receiving the kickoff. They march down field, get stopped at the 22, and kick a penalty goal. Suddenly, the dog jumps up on the bar and begins walking up and down the bar giving high-fives to everyone. The bartender says, "Wow, that is the most amazing thing I've seen! What does the dog do if they score a try?" The owner replies, "I don't know, I've only had him for three years."
