A little more on the Tele at the HOF with Andy. I was at a book signing a couple months ago and Andy spoke about the beat up old Tele and how he still cherishes it. He spoke of it quite lovingly and he still has it so I don't think that was the issue. He seems to baby it these days is the impression I got. Not take it out so much as its worth a lot etc. In fact he said how this year Fender will be coming out with a signature series guitar replica of that Tele - even examining every detail and recreating the scratches and custom stuff in it (like the pickup configuration). He said it will be very expensive was how he put it. I may have video of that part of his speaking not sure - need to check the archives. I just googled it and it seems some articles on Fender doing this are coming out. BTW - in the book this Fender is not the guitar he and Eric sold each other - the Fender is the one he bought from a student of his in California in the 70's. It's a customized '61 Fender Tele. Blockbuster has shipped RestorationThank you David, you are giving me a fantastic news! When Stewrat told me about Andy open his Tele and using some parts of it for other guitars and 'that Tele' was not there anymore as it used to be, I was shocked; Stewart said he was very surprised as 'it was The Police guitar, that's history, how could he do that I don't know' (he used these words). Now that you tell me that Andy told you so, I guess he might have 're-established' his instrument...and if they will play now I really want to see it again on stage on Andy's shoulders! Thanks David! Hey thanks David for sharing the info! I'm glad that this guitar is still "alive"! Knowing this from Andy himself pretty rectify this. Turns out even his close friends can be wrong. Also interesting is news about the Fender replica project. I'm still convinced that Andy will sound great with a totally different guitar, a strat or even a Gibson. You can pretty much have a hint of that in his Hot Licks video. He plays Police tunes with different guitars and he still sounds great! Any guitarist or bassist can tell there are so many factors (strings, amps, effects and last but not least the hands) that play an important role in obtaining "the sound". A replica will never turn you into instant Summers or Clapton or Jaco. By the way looking at the sum requested to obtain a "Blackie" Fender (see link below) Andy's replica will not be cheap. http://www.electric-guitar-review.com/2006/10/20/24000-for-a-blackie-replica -cigarette-burns-included/ Thanks again.
