Okay, so The Police have just announced their second show in Denmark in June next year - the question is, should I go? I have a hard time making up my mind here. Ticket prices are high - again - and I have already seen them when they were here on September 1st. That was an amazing show, but it will probably be the same show over again in June. Also, the summer shows come after a three month break, so maybe they will not be up to full speed. Then again, this is probably one of the last chances to see the trio perform live, and they are my favourite group. They could, of course, do the unthinkable and make new music in the three month break and present that at the summer shows, in which case I should definitely go! What are your thoughts about the summer shows? Will they just be a plain wrap-up of the tour, or will we see something different? I'm hoping the latter, but logic dictates the former (the same logic that ruled out a Police reunion for 20 some years ...). Good Question Mikkel! Same one is running trhrough my head. I went to the 2 Amsterdam shows, with a little help from Giovanni I got an seccond ticket. And now there is a new date for Düsseldorf. Hmmm, now what? I'll probably be the same.. but then again it is the Police! Anne-Jelmer ----- Original Message ----- From: Mikkel Z. If the Police come around here again, I won't be going. Of the 30 or so Sting shows I have attended, few of them differed from each other. The Police shows were quite similar to any Sting show I attended. So given the premium price for tickets I can't justify it for myself. This isn't a criticism. It's just an observation. I'm thankful I finally got to see my favourite band (two identical shows) before I die. New album, new tour? Different story. -----Original Message----- From: police-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:police-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Anne-Jelmer Drent Sent: November 29, 2007 1:36 AM To: Sting-liste Subject: Re: [Police] Should I go ...? Well, I am only seeing them once this time. Brisbane and that's it. I saw the Police play each tour in Sydney. I have seen Sting umpteen times and Andy every night he played in Sydney. Logistically I could fly all about Australia to see them, but for those of you who know the land down under, I live on a continent that has a land mass that is larger than North America, so there is a major cost involved in air fares and accommodation apart from tickets. 20 odd years ago in 1984 I saw them in Sydney then jetted off to Melbourne to see the last Synchronicity concert, back then I was 20, no family and a steady job. Fast forward a few years, I have 2 great kids and a wife and my own business - an IT consultancy. Mikkel, I guess it comes down to priorities. I'd love to see them all over Aus and anywhere else in the world - in fact I was just saying to my wife that she and I could go to Hawaii for a holiday next year and see the boys play Honolulu. My life is much different now to 1984. As much as the Police are my band ( and my kids like them too! ), I can only justify seeing them in Brisbane, but I will have my son with me for the ride! Interesting question. If they come back to Ireland and did the same show, then NO - i wouldn't pay the bucks to see them. As a few have pointed out, if they changed show, added new music, then YES I would. I would love to go and see The Police if they had different arrangements of the current setlist ... Wrapped Around Your Finger was the best song (in my opinion) live on this tour. For me, that was a...newish, song!!!! a little different maybe - the rest of the gig, was just like going through the motions. Ah well, I'm just nit picking. Stranger things have happened though ..... ________________________________ From: police-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:police-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Mikkel Z. My opinion is that, if you can make it work from a financial perspective, you might want to try and go to the show. Believe it or not, I think the setlist will actually be somewhat different by then (by a couple of songs, anyway), and .well, I don't know.for me it is hard to imagine The Police playing near my home but not actually being there myself - I think you might regret not being there if you were to make that decision. Also, seeing 2 concerts of your favourite band in 25 years doesn't seem too excessive :-). I think you will thoroughly enjoy the show regardless of how similar or different it is from September, and who knows if you'll ever have an opportunity to see them again? Just my 2 cents. This reminds me of a vegan restaurant I go to every 2-3 months. All the staff know me by the number of the dish I order. Once a young waiter questioned why I didn't order anything else. There were many other good dishes according to him. I tried to explain to him that if I were going to die and were asked what my last meal would be that this dish would be it and it wasn't as though I came in every week to eat there. I don't wish that they would add a different sauce, or another side dish, or cook it differently. I just want that dish as it is, thank you very much. In the music world The Police are my #63; it was a major miracle that "the restaurant" reopened and I could have that dish again. (and again, and again : )** ) and I would have it again if they come to this area once more, even doing the same set list, as long as I had money in my pocket. **I saw them at both shows at Fenway Park in Boston in July, and then again in November at Boston Garden.
**I saw them at both shows at Fenway Park in Boston in July, and then > again in November at Boston Garden. Paula and all, I went to these shows as well and the Vancouver fan club show, and the Connecticult show, and agree with your sentiments--I joke with my friends that when Sting is a lounge act in Vegas I am going to get an apartment in LV so I can go to the show every night. (Though I don't I imagine that to be his fate.)
I do miss the older days of the first few Sting solo tours when he mixed up the set list a little and added some nice surprises. In 1988 at Great Woods in Mass. and he covered Squeeze's "Tempted" ! That was great !
