Ok, going to buy "The Last Ship." What's the best place to get it?
Hey all- I was listening to samples from The Last Ship this morning, and while I wasn't initially enthused about it, hearing the accents and the music are making me miss Newcastle a lot. I think I'm going to pick it up. Now the question becomes, where do I get it? The iTunes version has 14 tracks, but it looks like there's an Amazon version with 20. I'd like to buy on iTunes simply for the convenience, but is the Amazon version that much better? What tracks would I miss out on? Is there another, better place to buy that has a better version? I love the convenience of iTunes, but I kinda miss the days of just buying a CD, too. :P -Tim

"It's Not The Same Moon", "Hadaway" and "Show Some Respect" are very much worth getting, and are on the iTunes deluxe version but not the standard iTunes version. "Shipyard" and "Sky Hooks and Tartan Paint" aren't particularly my cup of tea, but are full of Geordie accents so might be worth it for you. "Peggy's Song" on the Amazon version is well worth getting. The other two tracks are less interesting. "Jock the Singing Welder" is decent enough but I skip it these days; Sting performed it live on Jools Holland so you may be able to find it online. The original version of Practical Arrangement is interesting only as a curiosity; it has Jo Lawry singing Meg's part, but I think the song works better if it's just a creepy psychopath grooming a young woman - and I suspect Sting decided that early on, as the "original version" doesn't have a horn section. The amazon version comes with a soundcloud version free, at least mine did, isn't there a way to pull the songs to the iPhone, or does the ghost of Steve Jobs forbid it? I'm all about the Amazon version. The second disc has some days gotten more play than the original album, frankly. On Wed, Nov 13, 2013 at 8:15 AM, Sam Kington <sam@illuminated.co.uk> wrote:

Oh, I can totally put the Amazon MP3s on my iPhone. It's just with iTunes it's automatic across all of my devices, even if I delete and re-download it later. The Amazon way I'd have to plug it in to the computer. First world problems. :P From: police-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:police-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of David Sent: Wednesday, November 13, 2013 11:44 AM To: Sam Kington Cc: SDFT Subject: Re: [Police] Ok, going to buy "The Last Ship." Hi, Do you know where the Sting fans are hanging out these days? Any good message boards or fan sites? Thanks! Frankly it's Sting best trial since many years ( though I like the Labyrinth album ...) . If you like this album you should listen to the albums of one of the guest of The Last Ship , The Unthanks ( many good albums you can listen as 'Here's the tender moments ' ...but you must perhaps know them since you seem to be from Newcastle. I’m not from Newcastle, (I’m a Yank) but I did live there for a while at one point and I grew to really love the Geordie people and the area. Thanks Michel, I would never have considered checking out The Unthanks! Totally music unrelated (sorry xmission), but here I am just waking from a dream where I thought,"Oh! I have a car and money now, a whole evening ahead of me. How lovely it will be to find a small restaurant on a quiet street to pass the time" to suddenly wake in a different city. I guess it's that time of year for missing where we used to live :) David [Man in a Suitcase] On Wed, Nov 13, 2013 at 10:18 AM, Timothy Enders <tenders@loyola.edu> wrote:
