I think you're right David. Where was the enthusiasm when The Police DID reunite? Everyone seems to forget about that... Years of longing for a reunion, and when they do get together (albeit for only three songs) no one shows up, no one really talks about it here, and the press doesn't really cover it... They WERE a great band... -----Original Message----- From: police-bounces+f.berthelot=ramsa.com@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:police-bounces+f.berthelot=ramsa.com@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of David Lucky Sent: Wednesday, November 09, 2005 10:07 AM To: Police@mailman.xmission.com Subject: [Police] enthusiasm for the Police Think about the fanfare about the release of this DVD. It is next to nil. I'd say the marketing of it will be very little. Amazon and other sites have next to no info about it and its coming out this week. To me it makes me wonder how big the Police are anymore. Are there thousands of fans , sure definitely. But these record companies must not think the potential audience is all that big. At least not anymore, I wonder _______________________________________________ Police mailing list Police@mailman.xmission.com http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/police -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The information contained in this communication and any enclosures or attachments may be confidential and/or proprietary. I believe we need to view this DVD release from the perspective that the Police have not created new music in over two decades. A segment of the music industryÂs target audience had not yet been born during the Synchronicity tour. As difficult as it may be to hear, we should expect there would be little or no publicity for a release aimed at a very small market niche. A related question: Is the PoliceÂs music of a quality that it will transcend generations? Is this decided lack of publicity an indicator that it will not? Please, no flames for asking a heartfelt question. IÂd enjoy hearing your thoughts on this matter. Fred Berthelot <F.Berthelot@Ramsa.com> wrote: I think you're right David. The SYNCHRONICITY dvd is a Universal UK product - from what I understand, it has sold quite well in Europe. Universal USA had nothing to do with it. As for here in the states...what can I say. There was NO press about its release here- none that I can point to. I couldn't tell you its release date here - no idea, I got an import copy. I agree that the today's music industry and most of those outside this page are "dead" when it comes to The Police. And that is indeed a shame. But, I think a very large part of that is because of Sting. He has made it a mission to disassociate himself from the band, its legacy, constantly shooting down reunion rumors, making the HoF induction seem like a chore rather than a joy. The legacy of The Police...is in an interesting place right now. Many of today's "young bands" point to them as an inspiration, the reason they started playing music, etc. But these bands have their own product to sell, their own careers to promote. It is not their job to "promote The Police" or "keep The Police alive" in the minds of modern music. That job falls primarily to Universal Music. And in Universal's defense...why should it work to "promote" or "keep alive" The Police when most times, when they want to do a Police-related project, Sting vetoes it. You can only beat your head against the wall so many times... Here's looking forward to SACRED LOVE II... Best, Rich p.s: Fred, they were the BEST band... --- Fred Berthelot <F.Berthelot@Ramsa.com> wrote:
