I'm starting this mail as most of non-English speakers do: I'm sorry for my English writting. Please understand this is not my native language. I'll do my best!!! I want to say that i'm still shocked and excited with the things that I lived on Saturday and Sunday nights. I'm 25 and started listening to The Police when I was 13, when I found a Greatest Hits CD that belonged to my sister (the one with the white background and the picture with the three of them wearing black glasses). Since that moment I became a fan and when I started to read things about the band I realized that I would never be able to see them alive. So last weekend I felt like all my dreams were becoming true. I admit I was a bit affraid that shows would not completely fill my expectations, but now I see that I couldn't be more wrong. Both shows were unbeliaveble amazing! The sound quality, the big screens, the audience, the schedule, Sting, Andy, Stewart! Everything was incredible. Even Beck seemed to sound well while we were waiting the main event!!! The setlist was the identical for both concerts: Message in a bottle Synchronicity II Walking on the Moon Voices Inside My Head / When The World Is Running Down… Don't Stand So Close to Me Driven To Tears Truth Hits Everybody Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic Wrapped Around Your Finger De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da Invisible Sun Walking In Your Footsteps Can't Stand Losing You / Regatta de Blanc Roxanne King of Pain So Lonely Every Breath You Take Next To You I was surprised how they made room for Andy. He, with his red stratocaster, really rocked!!! He did 5 o 6 solos that were amazing!!! Sting reached almost all the high tones he wanted to reach. He made two mistakes with the bass that i could count but he played brillantly (with his left thumb pressing the fourth string, strange technique) Stew was absolutely great. Sometimes seemed as if the drums were part of his body. And of course he was the most beloved by the audience. A continuous ovation for him. The shows duration were of 1:45 hour. Both of them. That was a con. Everything was under a script. Even an acting that Andy an Stewart made before Next to you bis. Both days the same. Leandro, Your English is great! And what a FANTASTIC review. Your thoughts are very insightful. I like how you described Stewart's drum set as part of his body. Very well said! One of them (Stewart?) has stated in an interview that "Spirits" is one of the harder songs to play. I guess they figured that it was easier to drop it than to attempt it night after night. I know the guitar and bass parts myself and while they aren't difficult on their own, in a band dynamic they can be a bit tricky. "Spirits" in particular has each of them going in slightly different directions (yet arriving at the same destination at the same time). If you have the Synchronicity tour rehearsals, you might recall that "Spirits" was giving them trouble even then. Mitch
I saw them do Spirits in Vancouver at the start of the tour - of course, I love the song and would love to hear them play it again, but it did lack some energy the way they played it and I am not surprised they dropped it from the set. Stewarts son, Jordan (is that correct???) said something about having 20 or 25 cameras capturing those shows, so it certainly sounds like the Buenos Aires concerts will be a major contributor to the DVD.
