I saw them do Spirits in Vancouver at the start of the tour – of course, I love the song and would love to hear them play it again, but it did lack some energy the way they played it and I am not surprised they dropped it from the set.  Of course, they could have worked on it to make it better…..

One of them (Stewart?) has stated in an interview that “Spirits” is one of the harder songs to play.  I guess they figured that it was easier to drop it than to attempt it night after night.  I know the guitar and bass parts myself and while they aren’t difficult on their own, in a band dynamic they can be a bit tricky.  “Spirits” in particular has each of them going in slightly different directions (yet arriving at the same destination at the same time).  If you have the Synchronicity tour rehearsals, you might recall that “Spirits” was giving them trouble even then.
