I agree with what both you, Omaha and Giovanni are saying. I never got to see the Police in concert. I was in my teens when I got hooked on them, about the time Zenyatta came out. I remember a guy I knew in high school was going to see them and I was so envious, 'cause of course I wanted to go. Anyways, even though I have never experienced the Police 'live" per se, I am going through what I consider to be a "re-living of the past", vis-a-vis shows that other people recorded of the Police in various phases of their rise to no.1. I have been to Sting's solo concerts numerous times and have enjoyed them immensely, all the while waiting on pins and needles for that rare "Police tune" to find it's way onto Sting's set list, and when he would play one, that's when I would go crazy. The last time I saw Sting was in Denver two years ago and he played "Hole In My Life". This was the first time i had heard Sting play it and the first time I have heard him play anything other that the usual standard Police fare, IE. Roxanne or MIAB or EBYT, etc..!! I thought I was gonna lose my mind! It was incredible!! My buddy and I went nuts!! And I have to say, there were not many others in the crowd going as nuts as we were. Must have only been pure "Sting fans"!! Now, I am no artist, however, I know that I have some artistic tendencies running through me since I play bass(wonder why?) as well as sax, and have some drawing talents. I can understand Sting's desire to distance himself from the Police as much as possible. I can see that for him, the Police was almost a means to an end. For him, to be able to play and record the music he wants to and not have to bow to record companies desire to sell records. As much as I believe that, I would be nuts not to want to see them to get back together in any way, shape or form, whether it be an album or a tour. I see more problems with an album though, seeing as how they were pretty much at each others throats back in the day when they were just getting popular. Imagine the 3 of them now, trying to write songs with Sting's enormous ego getting in the way. Although, seeing as how they are just a bit older, I don't see them wrestling and beating on each other as much!! I think that a tour would probably be the best. When Sting played "Hole In My Life", I could sense that old Police intensity from Sting and that it would have been no problem for Stewart and Andy to slip onto the stage and jump right in without skipping a beat. I do think that for all of Sting's successes as a solo artist, he does need to remember where he came from and revisit his roots by having some kind of reunion with the boys. I think it is about time. And when it happens, I sure hope I get those front row seats.... I hear you, Giovanni. I met Sting when I was 19, I believe it was the summer of 1990 when he was opening some stadium shows for The Grateful Dead. I knew beforehand that I was going to meet the man and I had it in my head that I was going to tell him he NEEDED to get The Police back together. Sting signed a portrait I did of him, took a couple of photos with my friends and I and was just so genuinely NICE, I couldn't bring myself to say anything. It occurred to me, "He doesn't want to hear that. Who am I? I'm just some kid to him." I'm an artist and a writer, I totally understand that an artist is going to follow his own path despite what critics or even his fans have to say. I can respect that. I'll always love the man because of The Police, however it's been years now since I've been willing to spend money on his solo albums or concerts and I don't see that changing. He's just gone a route that holds no interest to me. That's too bad, but that's his prerogative. Stewart and Andy however... You also have to consider that a reunion tour is not only about 'fans', but is mainly about the 'guys' in the band and you know how important for an artist is to 'read' about what he does in the newspaper, read what critics write...this is a heavy heavy heavy responsability, it's not easy to 'survive' to such ignorant feedback you may have, and I can tell you that a reunion of THE POLICE could bring a flood of responses....I'm not sure Sting would be that happy to read something like 'ok, this is the Sting we want', or maybe 'what? The Police? They were big in the past, this is just a shadow of what they did'...or similar...
