Isn't it great that we like an artist that has that many great songs that we consider favorites to choose from? I hope in 15 more years it gets even more difficult for us to choose. I can't tackle this challenge because my top 5 may rotate hourly depending on my mood, what I had for breakfast, if the sun's out, etc....... Good luck! Thanks, Maggie, for the interesting Billboard information. I think Sting has learned a great deal from his last album/tour and will be putting that lesson into practice for "Sacred Love". Brand New Day was a slow mover after its release. Then it was brought to the rest of the public by Compaq, Jaguar, and Best Buy. Barely a month after its release, Sacred Love has already gained corporate sponsorship from AOL, American Express Blue and Victoria's Secret. The latter is obviously going to be centered around "Whenever I Say Your Name". The tv special is timed around the single's release and I'd wager that the song will feature prominently on the "exclusive" Sting mix CD that's to be sold at the retail stores. A collector's item for us, an Ebay goldmine for some, and some carefully executed targeting of a potential Sting demographic. The fan part of me is thrilled to see Sting everywhere. "While sales of Dido's "Life for Rent" (Arista) fell 43% to 110,000 copies in its sophomore week on the chart, the album is able to maintain its No. 4 post. In two weeks, the album has sold about 300,000 copies. Also standing its ground is Dave Matthews' "Some Devil" (RCA), which is No. 5 for the second week in a row. Sales of his set slipped 34% to 103,000 copies. Sting's "Sacred Love" suffered a 51% sales drop to 94,000 copies in its second week and the A&M set drifts 3-6. Its two-week total is 289,000 copies." Interesting to compare SL to Dido and Dave Matthews which came out at/near the same time and have held their ground. Maggie

Thoughts on the Westwood One broadcast

For those that weren't able to hear the Westwood One broadcast... There was an interview with Sting about the album, approach to the live show, and the ideas behind "Broken Music" (focusing on the stories that haven't been covered in the press). Nothing discussed that we don't already know. PLENTY of plugs. Be sure to pick up "Sacred Love", "Broken Music", and American Express Blue Cash. Live at the "Blue Five", indeed. *rolls eyes* The (heavily edited and out of order) setlist: Send Your Love - Slowly evolving. Nice, drawn-out take on the intro verse - mainly Sting on acoustic guitar. Band kicks in pretty quickly. Message In A Bottle - Rock version!!! What's it been, 12 years? Set Them Free - As per usual, except for the accented hits in the chorus from the "All This Time" arrangement. Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic Inside Whenever I Say Your Name - I don't particularly care for this song, but Joy Rose now clearly owns it. Mary J. Who? :-) Synchronicity II - Straightforward. Sting has dropped the newer chromatic scale arrangement for the last verse that he played during the MF tour. Roxanne If I Ever Lose My Faith In You - a little bit of the extended end jam, reminded me of the TST live version. Every Breath You Take - slowed down from the BND live turbo version. Sounded quite nice. Fragile - original version I'm not surprised as to what songs were chosen for this broadcast - a mix of new songs and greatest hits. I was hoping to hear the tracks that weren't played on the BBC broadcast - "All This Time", "This War", "Desert Rose". I love when the band cuts loose, so "Never Coming Home" would have been welcome. Even though that's now a jam section we've heard countless times, it still delivers on the energy level. Even though the song means much to me, I'm glad they didn't waste time with another recording of "Fields Of Gold". It'll be interesting to see where the songs on this tour end up. From what little I've heard, it seems that the classic songs are there, but they've been more or less returned to their original arrangements. Sadly, my tape didn't turn out :-( -b-

Sony and Philips introduced their latest catalog of SACD discs in the U.S. market. The new SACD Catalog is entitled "09.03" (September 2003) and is debuting at the AES Convention. The catalog features Sting on the cover to promote his new Surround Sound SACD release of the new album Sacred Love. It also includes several full page ads for other recent key SACD releases including Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon on EMI/Capitol Records, the 7 Stereo SACDs on Analogue Productions by Creedence Clearwater Revival, Gaucho by Steely Dan on MCA and the Sympathy for the Devil Remix by the Rolling Stones on ABKCO.
