I just arrived home from a short holiday and am pleased to see some life in this list! I never understood why people told people which topics could be mentioned on this mailing list and which ones couldn't. The USA want to be a World POLICE. So for a POLICE mailing list mentioning the Chief of the World Police is within the rules... It was I who sent the initial "no politics" request. I was referring to the classic definition of politics, that of governmental politics. I sent the post for the very reasons stated below by Ross. There was, at the time of my posting, a sufficient amount of inflammatory topics being bantered about, and we just didn't need to add politics, as defined above, to the mix. This list has, once again, denigrated into a forum where acrimony is the primary form of communication. This behavior is what led to many people leaving xmission (including Dave and Wendy) who had a great deal to contribute to the list. At this rate, Aaron may well be able to expect a long awaited surge of activity on ISUN. The observation made below by Ross was very astute. Derogatory remarks made about one country or another on an international list, as is this, will not help facilitate open and constructive discourse, but will most certainly lead to animosity. Those of us who have been on this list for years have seen a plethora of disputes and verbal battles come and go, however, this latest round seems to be much more caustic and it leaves one to wonder if it makes sense to continue weathering the storm. Jeremy, who arguably has provided this list with an abundance of valuable and entertaining information over the years has been vehemently attacked; multiple posts attacking the United States (this is Sting/Police related......how again?); acerbic assaults on Sting that are absent the value of any meaningful rationale.......the list is so far away from it's original intent it's practically unrecognizable. Now, having said all of that, I wish to publicly apologize to Dietmar for the tone of my previous post....it was borne of emotion and patriotic pride and while I don't apologize for the "spirit" of my email, I shouldn't have reacted in anger to the extent that I did. It does however serve to illustrate Ross' point quite clearly, when one attacks another's country it will, and did, lead to nothing but animosity. And now thanks to you kind people (and a frantic online shopping expedition to HMV.co.uk) , I learn that the bloody thing has been on general release in Europe for ages! Amazon.co.uk, what have I done to you that you should make me think otherwise?! I suffered through your inadequacies! I should be trying to buy shares in you merely to recoup my outlay on your fine products! *try to imagine this being said in the most histrionic tone possible* Anyway, I'm a little upset. *sniff* I think I'm going to have to go and get the DVD this week... But on to happier things... it's nice to see some reviews of the book finally appearing in the press. Friday's Daily Mail (UK) had a glowing review, plus a nice picture of Sting and Trudie, and I see from the Stingus mailing list that there's been more stuff happening in overseas papers... Did anyone get to see Sting perform "Whenever I Say Your Name" on BBC1's Children In Need on Friday? I stayed up watching until midnight with a videotape at the ready, but Sting came there none... was the performance pulled from the schedule at the last minute? I did notice that stuff scheduled in the Radio Times to happen in one phase of the evening turned up much later, so I daresay that a lot of juggling of acts was going on. i was just looking at some of the sting tix on ebay- this guy is selling 2 OBSTRUCTED view tix and wants $599 for "buy it now". the bidding is only up to $169 and there are only 18 minutes left in the auction with the reserve not met. i really hope all those greedy b-stards who are trying to rip peope off on ebay end up eating their presumed profits. i just pulled out Sacred Love after having not listened to it for several weeks, and it sounds great! i really do like this cd!
