I think it's funny how you guys are worried about your parents liking the music. My dad is why I got into the Police and Sting. Of course, he told me how he was first introduced to "So Lonely" from the Synchronicity video and how dissappointed he was when he finally bought Outlandous and heard the album version. Annie and Sting at ACC

That Toronto Star article isn't much of a review at all. Seemed like a lazy journalist had a tight deadline and not much to say. I thought it was funny how the review concentrated more on Lennox than Sting. Sting didn't include If You Love Somebody in the set list as this journalist suggests. I think that would've been the scoop of the century if that was the truth! It didn't live up to expectation. The highlight of my night was meeting Colin Mochrie from Who's Line Is It Anyway and all the other wonderful fans here in Toronto who I meet up with from time to time. Annie Lennox has an incredible voice and her set list is perfect. No problems with her performance but I didn't really go to see her anyway as I'm not a fan. Sting's vocals were much better in March at Massey Hall IMHO. I don't think he gave the full 110% last night as he seemed to save his voice here and there. The set list is comprised of a tune (normally a Police one) that makes you want to stand up and dance, followed by a slow song that makes you want to sit down and possibly be lulled to sleep. Does any self-respecting fan really WANT to hear the middle solo of When the World is Running Down live again. Even when it's disguised as another song?! Haven't we heard this on every bloody tour?! Am I the only one that thinks a Thousand Years is one of the worst songs you could perform as an encore (followed closely by Fragile)?! I personally think it ends the night off on a bummer note rather than a positive one. Maybe I should really be thinking about the deeper meaning of the song on the way home! The road is paved with good intentions. It was during this encore that i noticed quite a few people leaving their seats and heading for the door. All in all, a bit of a lunch bag let down. Sting's best songs last night were Englishman and the super-extend-o-delux-o version of Roxanne-o. It's the longest version of Roxanne I've ever heard. Lots of little noodling here and there by the band which is cool for fans but tiresome for the 50-somethings who really enjoy the "easy-listening" Sing songs and probably became fans around the BND album. Perhaps the most striking part of the concert for me is looking around the arena and asking myself, when did I become so old?? Are these the people Sting is marketing his music to these days? My parents?! Yikes!!! I guess that's the main demographic that can afford the good seats these days. I guess I was spoiled at Massey Hall and maybe I'm still a longtime fan that feels a bit let down by the setlist, arrangement of said set list and some of the music itself these days. If that's too harsh or negative a review for some of you - sorry - but it's just my opinion. I still love the guy - I've just seen him do better in the past. Cheers and regards, Chris

The following article is by Roger Friedman. _Sting_ (mip://0321aa70/default.html#1) | _Fox411 Grrr!_ (mip://0321aa70/default.html#2) Sting Wants You to Snap Him AP July 5, 2004: Sting and Annie Lennox on the Sacred Love Tour 2004 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.Sting, who looks better at 52 than anyone has a right to, wants you to take his picture. He's running a contest on his _Web site_ (http://www.sting.com/main.html) for amateur paparazzi. The winner gets the chance to become a Richard Avedon or at the very least Kevin Mazur, a snapper who was featured in Vanity Fair (but still isn't invited to their Oscar party). The winner also gets a free round trip to Los Angeles, all the digital camera equipment they can stuff into a bag and a chance to have sex with Sting while his wife, Trudie Styler, is off in Rome filming a miniseries. Wait, did I say that? Skip that last part. While Trudie is away, Sting is indeed behaving himself even though everywhere he goes the first 10 questions are about Tantric sex and Sting's now-legendary stamina. When he filmed the very odd first episode of John McEnroe's talk show last week, that was the entire conversation. Nothing to do with the Rainforest Foundation or any of Sting's humanitarian efforts. Almost nothing to do with his singing career, records, year-long concert tour or latest album. It was just sex, sex, sex. Sting revealed that he would not be comfortable wearing a thong. He also remained in good humor when asked to sing backup for McEnroe's wife, Patty Smythe, instead of performing one of his own songs. I was with Sting backstage at his Jones Beach gig about 10 days ago, while Annie Lennox was doing her part of the show. Billy Joel showed up, too, with his fiancee Kate Lee and some friends from Long Island. In his dressing room suite, Sting poured us both drinks and Billy proposed they start a super group like Blind Faith. "There hasn't been a group like Blind Faith in years," he said. "There's a reason for that," Sting replied. There was no mention of Asia, The Traveling Wilburys or the current supergroup Velvet Revolver. Billy hummed the old Sam & Dave hit "You Got Me Humming," while Sting tried on shirts for the show. We offered to leave, but he said, "Don't go, really. I don't like to be alone. I was left alone a lot as a child." It's in his book, you know. He entertained an old tour driver, whom he was very happy to see again. "I was afraid to come backstage before tonight," said the driver. "Never be afraid," said Sting. "You're family." By then Sting was wearing a tapered black silk shirt with large white cuffs. He has the lanky body of a 19-year-old boy, which is very depressing if you're wearing Gap polo shirts and thinking about getting a Carvel softie before the show starts. He also has a head of very thick, full, blond hair with no sign of a forming bald spot (although there is some receding temple stuff going on, always nice to see). It turns out that the recipe for fine living is yoga, sex and a little red wine, plus the love of a good woman and six children to keep in line. Sting will be on tour through next June 2005. When he told me this, I blurted out, "Huh? Why?" He replied, "That's my job. Why do you write?" The answer, of course, is to pay the bills. By now Sting has enough money to never record or tour again. He has a massive apartment in New York, a beach house in Malibu, a castle in England and a villa in Florence. The royalties from P. Diddy's remake of "Every Breath You Take" ("I'll Be Missing You") could keep him in white cuffs forever. But that's the deal, you see, he likes to work. Billy, who hasn't released an album in 11 years, told us he's working on "sketches" of songs. "Sketches?" Sting said with a raised eyebrow. He's released an album every two years since breaking up with the Police in 1982. He has three Oscar nominations for best song. He wrote songs for the failed Disney cartoon, "The Emperor's New Groove." Sketches? Around then, Billy suggested that he play something in Sting's show. They decided he could commandeer the B3 organ during "Every Breath You Take." The crowd would go crazy seeing their local Long Island hero. Right before the show started, Sting drank a cup of hot tea in the wings. Any special reason? "No," he said, with a smirk. He just likes tea. Where's the mythology when you really need it? He made some alien bird calls to loosen up his voice. That was it. No big deal. Dry ice suddenly billowed up from the stage and the house lights went down. "It's time," he said, and wandered out to his starting position like a man opening a kiosk or a shoe store for a day's work. Over the course of two hours, Sting's extraordinary energy level never flagged. He sang most of his hits -- "Roxanne," "If I Ever Lose My Faith in You," "Fields of Gold" -- and performed a hot duet with Lennox on "We'll Be Together." The crowd roared for "Englishman in New York." And I remembered how back in 1978, our local New York rock radio station -- where rock lived but was dying -- refused to play "Roxanne" because they couldn't pigeonhole it. Now it's like "God Bless America." And Billy? He had such a good time that, when "Every Breath" came to its extended conclusion, Sting had to drag him off the stage by the lapel. He may even have gotten an autograph.

Sorry for being late posting this but, here goes: The weather couldn't have been more beautiful which really started the night off well. Dominic opened and was sweet and friendly - the crowd was still pretty thin at that point - my favorite part of his set was his playing of The Star Spangled Banner. He told us he would be available after Annie's set to sign autographs and meet people. He was, I did! No biggie for some of our list members I know but for me it was an amazing moment. He was so open and friendly and it was just awesome to meet him, shake his hand and get his autograph. I did get to tell him that I was glad he grew his hair out which made him laugh. It all just made my night! The crowd had picked up quite a bit by the time Annie came on and she was just tremendous! I was surprised and happy that she included Waiting in Vain. It's always been one of my favorite Marley tunes and I really love her version. Had to punch out on her last song though so I could get in the Dominic line! Sting came on just after dark and by then the crowd was full. I, of course, ended up sitting next to all of the dead people. Our seats were just behind the Pavilion's VIP section which was populated by recipients of the tickets the house held. I hate to be bitter but it pisses me off to see those tix go to people who don't know or care about Sting's music....they chit chat during the sets, have no reaction to the music, don't clap after a song, etc. Each table was a corporate table for different companies in the area. Pissed me off and I'm clearly still sulking......but I digress. Sting's set list was the same as those since he started touring with Annie, although I hadn't realized he was doing Seven Days, I can think of numerous other songs I wish he'd added instead, since we got Seven Days during BND tour, but it's a song I like so no biggie. The band was great, Keith Carlock looks too young to be out on tour with the grown ups but damn that kid can wail! Jason was brilliant and of course Dom was his usual amazing self. I really could live without Kipper along with his influence on Sting's music but even so.....it was just awesome to hear Synchronicity, King of Pain, and, wow, Joy Rose just owns WISYN. I loved every single moment of his set. He looked gorgeous and sounded even better. I have to say I really miss having Fragile at the end - while I see the point of it following This War I really miss the "tradition" of it being his last song. So, for this Sting fan, I loved, loved, LOVED the night from start to finish....ESPECIALLY meeting Dominic. Hope everyone is having a lovely summer! ~Anne
