Subconcious influence - absolutely. My boyfriend and I find that we're both drawn to 80s-sounding stuff, because it resembles the music we heard when we were young kids. Joe would've been around for band practices and gigs at times during the Police era, which is bound to have influenced his singing style. And the band paid their dues for years, going out of their way to avoid the impression that they were trading on Sting's name. What gets me is that in any other profession you get people who get opportunities through friends or relatives in the same line of work. If you're working hard on your own to begin with, I don't see anything wrong with taking a chance, and I find it hard to believe that most people (including most music journalists) would resist the chance of a lifetime to open for a band like the Police. The implication of criticisms is, of course, that you're not keeping it real if you had help. I think the whole quest for authenticity in music is often pretty bogus, depending as it does on what is, at any given time, fashionably considered to be authentic... In the end what bugs me most about this is that now less people will give a great band a chance. Hopefully when they start getting airplay in the UK the music itself will be a counter-influence... I managed to get us a self-catering apartment for one night. The train tickets can be bought on the day. Thank God that's over. (I've not been well this year and organising stuff takes on intimidating proportions in my head, so I've been putting it off.) I'm going to see The Police. Probably the excitement will kick in in a day or so. :D Ang PS Did anyone see the bitchy one-star review Kerrang! did of Fiction Plane's album? It mostly centred on Joe getting advantages because of his dad and the band sounding like the Police. Oh please... vocally, yes. Two Sisters, even musically. But they're further from sounding like a Police copy than they've ever been.

THE POLICE German cover story

on August 17 THE POLICE appeared on the cover of another German magazine: _http://www2.production-partner.de/titel.html_ (http://www2.production-partner.de/titel.html) the mag deals with the technical aspect of their two Dallas shows: screens, lights and sound the cover photo is from Dallas - June 27 there are a few more POLICE photos from both Dallas shows inside the mag but the band is shown rather small to present more of the screens, stage, sound system etc... all in all 10 pages I'll buy this magazine for everybody interested (which is usually no-one) but the mag itself is already 7,10 Euro - not to forget postage ! Dietmar
