Sting & co. performed a great version of Set Them Free on Leno. His voice was impeccable. They ended sort of abruptly (without the gospel outro) but it sounded great nonetheless. Abe is great to watch - very original drummer! And no Christian McBride tonight... But Chris is the most missed of them all :-( Sting, Russell Crowe and Jay Leno then each rode on those new self-propelled scooters. It was hilarious! Sting even did a yoga pose while riding it! He then sang his new song "Until" on acoustic guitar. It seems like a hard song to sing -- he had a bit of a tough time with it. He was probably a bit too hyper after riding the scooter. But it sounds like a beautiful song. See y'all in Vegas!... Fred

Tonight Show Review

Hello again, Hope everyone is well. I just got back from the Tonight Show with Jay Leno taping. It was GREAT!!! Here's how it went: (I'm not sure when they took commercials near the end, so you may see this stuff or may not have) The guests were Russell Crowe, the inventor of that new 2 wheeled scooter device, and Sting. Russell had frantically arrived seconds before he was supposed to go on stage, and I think he literally ran from the car to the stage! Anyway, it came time for Sting's segment. The curtain rose...and behold! I must say that the studios are MUCH smaller in real life than they appear on TV; there really aren't any bad seats in the house. The band sounded great, playing Set Them Free. There's a new bass player - I wonder if he'll be at Vegas too. Kipper waived to me during the beginnng of the song (you may be able to see this on TV, I'm not sure), and overall everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. The tech guys (Hopps, Ravi, Jimmy, etc.) were all busy getting things set up right to the point they went on stage. After the song is when things really got good. Sting waltzed over to the interview area, and soon they were all playing on the scooters. It seemed very impromptu, with Leno even quickly talking to the producer saying "are you sure this is OK?" Sting picked it up quickly, and even started doing some acrobatic moves on it...you could see the athletic prowess! After that they returned to talking, but while all that commotion was happening Sting did something I thought was very cool. Unseen from camera, he walked over to the band and put his hands in a sort of prayer and gave a little bow. Really cool. We all saw a tech guy put Stings little tenor Spanish guitar behind the sofa before the show, so we knew something was up. The rest was really a blur. He pulled out the guitar and played a beautiful song I'd never heard (but I'm sure some of you....Fred?..Jer?...have). The great part was that for the audience it was all live, direct sound. I must say that I've never heard Sting's voice UNamplified, and I have even more respect for him now. Then, as only Sting can do, he finished and returned to his silly, boyish character. When you watch the show, try to see this. It happens in a flash, and is one of the things that make him so unique. I'm saving the best for last...at the end, they were all playing on the scooters again. The guests and Jay had to gather in front of the stage and do a quick promo - "Hey everyone, watch blah blah tonight..." THEN, as Jay and Russell were chasing around each other, Sting picked up his guitar and started playing the James Bond theme!! Even in the right key...perfectly. It just goes to prove how good his "ear" is and his overall musicanship. Unfourtunately, I don't think this made it onto the air. So it was my treat, I guess, for driving 2,000 miles. :) See you in Vegas! James

Hi there, I don't think this has been posted yet, and it was a big surprise to me. I just saw an ad for Jay Leno that Sting's on tonight. He certainly gets around these days. Looks like by scooter if you saw the promo! Michelle

There are actually some hidden things on the dvd, for example, the version of desert rose from the rehearsals night is on there, but it isnt listed as being so. There is also 100% of the dress rehearsal show on the dvd also, but it is in a file that plays at about 300 miles an hour, so the whole concert only lasts about 3o seconds, but it looks interesting enough. Denver Show

Hello, I haven't posted anything since the the Carter Administration it seems, so I thought I might as well. The show last night in Denver was much more laid back then the Beacon show last week, and this was manifested in some interesting ways. Sting looked clearly non chalant the entire evening, speaking an inordinate amount of times - even for him. He used his asprin water sprayer a lot too. There were no set changes compared to the Beacon show, save excluding the first verse of Shape of my Heart at the first encore. Seven Days was really great, perhaps the best version I've heard. Sting started off with his "one two three four five, two two three four and" From there, it was a disaster. Abe started playing in either 7 or 9 - not 5. It fell apart, and Sting said "Stop, stop stop! This is in 5, right Abe?" Poor Abe was having problems with his kit all night, and had to replace the hi hat and snare drums during songs also. Sting said "Be careful with those drums Abe, they're very expensive!" Then, as they started the 2nd time, Kipper came in too early. Sting just shrugged and went on with it. They are reverting back to the old "Central Park" version of Roxanne now. The new trumpet player continued to sound way out of place, IMO. Very thin, cold sound, and not nearly the confidence Chris had. The only other highlight was Danny Q's brother sitting behind us a few rows. He's the "thicker" version of Danny, if you will. See some of you in Vegas! I have 15 hours of driving ahead of me now...yeah!! James
