They are getting a little old, and somewhat flat, but would you rather see someone else performing those songs? Orb alumni Guy Pratt is also in there good people. On the next album, I'm glad to see Youth in there still writing Orb tunes A special project indeed. Almost a dream project.....and timed perfectly I would say. Let's see a tour of that line-up. lol. Holy... yes. A tour of that would be... otherworldly. =D Yeah, they're getting old. But like a fine wine, they age gracefully and still get you drunk. -- Brian On Aug 17, 2010, at 6:47 PM, Michael Thomas wrote:

Apparently, this was originally just David jamming with Youth. I guess somewhere after the jam sessions, Youth and/or LX felt it should be an Orb project. I think when it started, David Gilmour was un-aware that it would be an Orb album in particular. It sounds like none of them did. Or maybe that's just what they want us to think. Michael T.
I am very interested in what the sound will be for the next album. Hopefully not so damn dancy crappy as the last one (IMO ;-) ). It is time for the UForb sound again! Spacey guitars, some sparse synths and thick basslines, thats the combination! Ramon.....did you even listen to The Dream? That was the combination. Youth and Steve Hillage on one track? That hasn't happened since System 7 to my knowledge. "The Dream" was the best Orb album since Orbus in my opinion. It was a progression too. I can see your point that there wasn't any "longer" pieces that go on and on.......which The Orb have done before, but I wouldn't mind another double album like the first one (2 hours), so they could get more songs and longer mixes onto the discs. I'm sure the record labels don't want a to have to charge for a double album though. My two cents.... Getting out.... More interesting info: http://exclaim.ca/articles/generalarticlesynopsfullart.aspx?csid1=115&csid2=... "The collection is divided into two parts: "Metallic Side" and "Spheres Side." Each of these sides is split into five sections. The album features "David Gilmour’s discernible electric guitar and lap steel guitar, Alex Paterson’s sound manipulation, keyboards and turntables, and Youth’s bass guitar and keyboards." So, this week The Orb is Alex, Youth and David. Hooray, no Tim Bran!! ;-) -- The Orb News ::: http://orb-news.blogspot.com
Thanks for the news links... The first one obviously doesn't follow the Orb's music. They would have known that Mr. Glover is a founding member......... The second one is interesting for the info on the creation of the album.....also it was interesting to note that I've been watching Polly Samson's video of the Roger and David reunion. How "indie" is that? ....and the third link marcolphus shared in another email said it was going to be released via Columbia. So....an Orb album being released as a Floyd album? I'm sure Columbia has been drooling for this collaboration since the days of the "So David, why don't you make music like the Orb?" questions around the time of 'The Division Bell'. "Because The Orb make music like the Orb"....was his reply to one of those questions if I remember correctly. I need to get some more working clients.......a vinyl pressing and a 3D60 bought together won't be cheap..... Hi Michael, I see your point, i have The Dream album, and yes The Dream has some good stuff but i do think it was somewhat artificial souding. I know, it is all very subjective.. ;-) So let's see what the new one will sound like. Concerning the longer pieces, yes i would rather have 5 long pieces on an album then 12 short scrappy "songs". reg R From: musicforlisteners@hotmail.com To: orb@mailman.xmission.com Date: Thu, 19 Aug 2010 18:11:31 -0500 Subject: Re: [Orb] The Orb featuring David Gilmour - Metallic Spheres-October5th Ramon.....did you even listen to The Dream? Does anyone have the vid from youtube anywhere. Somebody got it taken down due to copyright. Unfortunately, I missed it before it got taken down.
Nope, sorry! I hate these copyright *******. How can you make money out of a jam session anyway?? Beyond my logic really. And youtube is VERY quick in taking vids down whenever a bastard starts to whine about it. Probably a bastard with a lot of influence (record company)..
