I'm not going to even attempt to continue the racism thread on the list. Those of you that keeping screaming "racist" aren't paying attention and don't know the full story. If you'd like to keep debating this (not flaming, debating) with me please do so offlist. I'll gladly set you straight. :) I don't hate my neighbors here. The real ghetto scum I have no respect for (the ones with the crack in their pockets, the 9mm in their pants, and the boom in their hoopty Broncos) but some of my neighbors are young mothers working their way through nursing school or old women that have no place to go. I've got a little posse of black kids that come work with me in my tiny garden. I love those kids. That doesn't mean I should ignore the ghetto crap that surrounds them. None of this is simple but it is real. Those of you that deny that are just like the monkeys: see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil. Anyway, this is the last I'll say on the list about it. If you go to my site you'll find a song called "No Happy Ending" which is secretly subtitled "The Ballad of Michael Jackson." It's a work in progress and has singing so you've been warned. While both there remarks do represent an extreme end of the argument... shitting all over the list as some1 said, wasn't the best reaction, everyone including me, is so quick to judge and despise any opposing opinion or viewpoints seen as "threatening" to ours. But why did it take you four posts on the subject to even mention the scourge of "white trash", instead you focus on the poor blacks and their attrocious behavior, and that's what I take issue with. What we are dealing with here is a general breakdown of society at large, and "ghetto culture" is one of many symptoms of this larger phenomenon. Come out here to Oregon and I'll show you the nastiest toothless crank whores you've ever seen, and they're white too! Personally I believe all people deserve compassion, and I don't feel any compassion for these people coming from you Alan. Wow, so you live near black people, that doesn't give you an automatic licsence to hate them. You seem to want to sit on your high horse and condemn them, when in fact the culture they live in has largely been created and encouraged by those who stand to profit from the oppression of others. As long as they sell crack to one another, spend all their money on their cars, and shoot each other they will never be a threat to the existing power structure of this country. That's the TRUTH, use that brain for something other than simplistic hatred and see who really stands to benefit from the situation, it ain't them and it isn't you or me either. The agenda of the people who run this country is to divide and conquer, and unfortunately I think you've fallen right in line with how they expect and in a way NEED you to react. You're also very quick to assume that I myself am white just because of my opinions on the issue, and yeah I think that's a racist reaction too, try thinking a bit before you jump to conclusions and make snap judgements about people you don't even know. I feel sorta bad that I brought up the Ghettopoly thing before departing for the countryside this weekend, I came back to a nice... yes Mark... over-discussed.. race war.... I just thought it funny BBC covered this idiots crappy invention (w/ I think the smoking gun book showed the patent for long ago). She took the pot leaf game-piece ha ha ahhh how cute... she's a british journalist and..... ugh.... my innocent point is now lost. Sorry.... Since there are some newbies (or is that "noobies"?) on the list could someone put up the current ftp addresses for them? I've lost all that stuff. As for the live shows, a wonderful listee has recently sent me some live shows from Brixton that I've never heard. They all sound like board takes which is very nice. I liked the '91 show a great deal. It's interesting to hear how organic those songs were and how they changed over time. Now back to the racism ranting: I've been thinking about this politically correct bullshit around "racist" remarks and I've gotta say I'm with Otto. The truth is ugly sometimes but it's not going to go away. There is a subculture in black America that involves all the stereotypes you are denying. By denying it you are turning away from it not only as a simple fact but also as the problem it is. A few months back, when it was warm and my windows were all open, two lowriders pulled over in front of my house, got out and had a conversation. If I wrote it out as fiction you people that are shouting "racist" the loudest would accuse me of it though I were quoting directly. "Now John*, if you have his baby he take care of you. But that Paul* is just out fo' some pussy. He must have five babies out there and he don't pay a cent fo' none of them!" This was a girl talking to a guy. They also talked about which of their friends were getting how much welfare, who got shot recently, who was smoking crack, how much of their income (sounded like ALL of it from the jobs they had) went into their hoopties... everything but "who my daddy is?" It was so stereotypical it was frightening. Am I a racist because I heard it? Or am I a racist for repeating it? How about seeing the crack dealers two blocks over or the crack whore three doors down? Or the two year old child that I got out of the street because his momma is too fucked up to watch him? Am I a racist for seeing this? How about the gold toothed felon in a hooptied SUV that pulled a gun on me for honking my horn at him? Am I a racist for noting he had gold teeth, a stupid fucking car, a gun, and black skin? Oh, I didn't say that, did I? But you filled his color in, didn't you? cont'd *The names were probably Leroy and G Piddy but I don't remember and I didn't want to just assume their names were "black" sounding. [dripping sarcasm]

cont'd My house will appreciate in value for several reasons but I live in the hood. Before I lived here I lived in Savannah, Georgia (which is one big hood), and in New Orleans (where you're always at most five blocks from the hood) so I think I'm pretty well acquainted with that of which I'm speaking. Anyone who denies its existance is a fool, plain and simple. If you don't believe it I invite you to come hang out here for a few days. Go walk five blocks east of here and then come back. Do that every day. If nobody tries to sell you crack and/or kill you I'll give you a hundred bucks. It's no better in the poor, white neighborhoods but it's got a whole different flavor. I bet I could talk about the gap-toothed rednecks all day and you'd never call me a racist but the gap-toothed rednecks are a subculture just like ghetto blacks are a subculture. The gap-toothed rednecks are mostly poor, of Irish decent, inbred, and smelly. They also tend to be overweight, drive their oil burning pickup truck without a seatbelt on, smoke too much, binge drink, beat their wives, neglect their children, and forget to feed their dogs. They snort crank, shoot each other, and wreck their cars in particularly lethal and amazing ways. I've seen it. Don't deny it. They exist in droves, just like the brothers with the glocks selling rocks down the block. I guess it's easier not to see.
