sorry to ask a stupid question but in the ufoff cd notes there is a comment which reads: u.f.off u no who u r that is that all about? did a quick serach of the archives and the period around 1998 but did not find anything. did see a great post by xenlab on people bitching about the orb changing and said people wishing lx would release more music circa 1991. was a long post but his point was very valid - sure the orb has changed/evolved but why bitch about it. if you don't like the new stuff don't listen. i personally like the old stuff better (see earlier post) but will still check out anything lx involved as i still apperciate what he has done and is doing. same goes for the limited stuff i have found involving thrash. smk the post headline: From: "{_ e r i c _}" <xenlab@???> To: <orb@???> Sent: Tuesday, November 19, 2002 9:04 AM Subject: [Orb] To all the haters! [MBM] tour

A little off topic so I'll keep it short and simple. The tour kicked off in Vancouver B.C on the 8th which I miss but I caught the show in Seattle last night and I must say, if the tour comes anywhere even remotely close to you, catch it!! Ben Stokes from DHS (also collaborated w/ Emergency Broadcast Network ages ago) was on hand for what I though pre-tour to be a video show for MBM, boy was I wrong! The main set and encore was EBN style using video clips as beat-loops and samples to the over-all performance using four projector's, four apple laptops (three for video) and a full electronic trap set (drum kit). Surprisingly at least one song from each major release was played to include 'Hello Teenage America' which was only played on their very first tour only this time it was quiet a major re-mix lasting 8+ minutes. So between the mix of previous hits plus four tracks from the new album, there was something there for the new and old fans alike. The set overall was about an hour and a half total and was opened by Dub-Trio (from N.Y) who did a very nice (but a tad redundant) set. Cheers

can't wait to see mbm again, it's been years. my brother got me a ticket for my birthday. dub trio are excellent, and icing on the cake for the mbm show-- their drummer joe is a friend of mine and absolutely one of the most talented drummers i've ever seen, and i've seen some wicked drummers. joe can play damn near anything, and has taken many influences from electronic acts like aphex, etc. & d'n'b & applied it to his live playing--- he'll do stuff where you'd swear he was running his kit through a delay pedal but he's actually playing it that way...THEN he'll add live delay on top of THAT... he also plays in a cleveland/nyc avant-jazz outfit called birth which i highly recommend to fans of creative, jazz-based music... that group in its prime is far more interesting than dub trio, IMHO-- virtuosic (but not banal wank) sax w/ effects, fretless bass, & drums... check out www.birthsound.com ... seriously. -- jack It is my belief that nearly any invented quotation, played with confidence, stands a good chance to deceive. -- Mark Twain http://www.Care2.com Free e-mail. 100MB storage. i agree with the sentiment that the pre-1994 work has flow and continuity that slowly deterriorates with each album after uforb. orbus t is still excellent in my mind and orblivion is just a notch below orbus t. cydonia is somewhat of a disaster, highlighted by once more. that said, i really enjoy the cydonia demo - does not seem that far off from orblivion (once more aside again.) i hate to pile onto once more but that track is unlistenable to me. it is a perfect example of a video perfectly matching the song - both are horrible disasters. i have to think the video was a joke but i think lx was the only one laughing. bike and trikes is a slight step up from the release version cydonia but is very hit and miss. aftermath is a big miss for me - almost (butnot quite) on par with once more. i think the evolution of their music is defined by their movement away from cohesive albums where all the tracks appear to be arranged with concept and flow in mind and to track oriented albums. the latter albums (i think beginning with orblivion but most evident on cydonia and b&T) are just all over the place. not that their earlier stuff was not different from one track to the next but the albums did a much better job of putting it all together. i think this is also demonstrated with the evolution of their live sets. but that is another post. bye. steve steve --------------------------------- Yahoo! Well, as an orb fan since, er, a while back I have finally got round to joining the list. Sorry I'm late. I have been smiling though, as it's great to see that the usual range of symptoms are still presenting themselves amongst the "normal" business of a mailing list - "test" posts, mistaken posts, squabbling, gossip and shameless self-promotion. In all, feels like home.
