Hey, I have what I believe might be an unfinished or unreleased track from Andy layin' around my place somewhere. It was something he gave to the guys at em:t records when we were both "on the roster." I remember liking it cuz it kinda reminded me of the Orb's remix of Gong's "A PHP's Advice." I think it had a similar synth sound... But I was wondering if any of you guys/gals had any objection to me posting it somewhere for download? Lemme know, and I'll dig it up! Yer Pal, Gel-Sol

Tonight, I'm really really sad...My first contact with Andy AFAIR was after a very short gig in Zeebruge, Belgium in July 1996. He replied to me by email to apologize for the problems during the concert and he hinted at that time that The Orb had done a Cranberries "Zombie" remix. He also offered me tickets to a future show. I wasn't sure at that time if it was the real Andy Hughes or not, but when I arrived to the concert booth near Los Angeles in August 1996, the tickets WERE THERE !I couldn't believe it at first.And then, thanks to Smiley, I really met Andy twice in London : during the Cydonia sessions in the studio and at the Royal Albert Hall concert.I also saw Andy two times more : in Paris, for the 1997 concert at La Cigale. I had the opportunity to go backstage with him and my wife. He was very kind. And I also saw in Japan after a concert in Mount Fuji. The weather was horrible but the performance was great.I don't think I saw The Orb live when Kris was on stage, but for me the Andy concerts were the best. They were always different with subtle changes.I really became an Orb addict at that time. I loved the time when almost every week, there was a new Orb remix for other artists (circa 96-97).I even wrote a comic book with a character named Andy Hughes :)I hope that, wherever you are, you are free. That really is the most terrible news. Condolences to his family. I love the Orblivion album and for me it was the last perfect Orb album, before things started to get a little more patchy. For me this will be a day for misty eyed reminiscing of Toxygene times in the past. Sad, sad news. :(

my favourite Andy moment

Call me a girl, but I thought it might be nice to share some memories of Andy, so here's my favourite moment: I had Andy & Fil out to play a show in SF in Fall of 2000 (I think). We had a great time during the show and the next day when I took them around town. (Here's a photo from that day: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=832349&l=eedf756436&id=530464501) Years later I finally made it over to London, and I'm sure it comes as no surprise that I had a number of Orb-related activities planned. I spent one day at Smiley's house, playing records and hanging out in his lovely garden. Then we were headed back into town for an Orb show (sans Andy - this was while they were on the outs) and to meet up with some of the other listees. We planned to have an early drink with Andy but it was a harrowing journey into town - traffic was worse than unusual, and IIRC, Smiley's car had a couple issues along the way, too. Suffice to say, we were pretty late. When we (finally) pulled up, Andy shot us this massive grin - he looked genuinely happy in that one moment. (And he then sent the boys to park the car while he & I went inside and enjoyed a drink - ha!) It was such a lovely evening of catching up.... he really was a top guy, very talented, and much fun to be around...

FUCKING HORRIBLE NEWS. He was my favorite Orb member. He even came to one of my shows in London, and I briefly talked to him. RIP Andy. You made the Orb one of my biggest influences.
