Dear Robert, I have just seen another post from mr learn and evolve who is also known as richie I am a bit concerned because it seems there is some possibility of him loosing his job If he is to be believed, which this time I think he is I don't think his actions deserve a sacking but he should learn not to post this kind of stuff up I would appeal to your better nature to think about it and consider that his posts were light hearted Although - perhaps for someone who didn't understand computers - quite frightening... At first I totally thought it was a joke but then it went on and became nasty I have quite a nasty alter ego on the net And its possible that I wound him up slightly... So I'm sorry and please don't fire learn and evolve I just don't think the crime warrants that... In the same way terrorists are created from someone else's arrogance, hate or indifference, my persona came to being on this list as a reaction to certain events that were taking place. If I have offended anyone, I am sorry, I have usually tried to bring another point of view to the forum, or at least provide entertainment (however warped it might have seemed at the time). I know many of you will be thrilled that as of this moment I am discarding this e-mail address and leaving the list, and as of tomorrow there is a high possibility that I will be forced to leave my job as well. Unfortunately, with only the word of one person and the fact that I tried to download a music track from the site a week after a hack had taken place, my current situation is in question. I have never ever hacked anyone, I wouldn't know how to, but in this day and age paranoia rules. Please take care not to make the same mistakes I did. Most importantly I wanted to add that I have heard some damn good music since signing on, much of it from listees themselves. Keep at it, in the end if hard work, truth and love does not rule over lies, arrogance and hate, at least it will feel a damn site better, all the best Peace ritchie (real music is the key) --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? It is as if you're listening to a collection of different bands. But when there is no differentation at all it also plays on my nerve, like the most recent Fehlmann album IMO. Expensive to keep? In what way? You mean service and stuff? I got a few analogue synths (and a lot of digital stuff as well ofcourse) and they always outrun the digital synths or plugins. When i listen to old records of the 90's by the Orb I hear a lot of analogue sampled stuff and acoustical instruments. This gives songs more depth and structure. More than using just synths and drumloops.. There really is no video equivalent of a vinyl record, where the information isn't encoded via magnetic or digital technology. A grooved video disc, now that would be cool! P.S. Anyone who thinks Blue Room sounds dated is nuts IMO, if it came out today I'd think it was awesome no doubt about it. Not that it matters, great music is great music regardless of when it was produced. Its timeless quality is exactly what makes it great. I have to say that I bitch about bad digital video compression all the time. Digital cable is the worst. The analog picture is far superior. The current DVD compression still has problems too. Many of the DVDs out there still have problems with mosaic artifacts. Don

As one of the fetishists in question, I have many reasons for buying largely vinyl rather than CD. First off it's cheaper. Records are on the whole WAY less expensive than cd's. Especially if you're buying them from fools who have no idea what they're worth or used from stores who aren't familiar with the genre etc. For example, I got my near mint vinyl copy of Adventures for $7 from a used record store in Cambridge Mass. :) Plus, a lot of old recordings which were analog to begin with sound better than their cd counterparts. A TON of music is available only on vinyl like old stuff, or new promos. The orb once more 3x12" promos are a perfect example. If you bought the cd you only got about 2/3 of the mixes. I like the format more generally, in terms of artwork, and in terms of the way it looks generally. Jewel cases just suck. The japanese, at least, generally have transcended the lame-oid standard plastic case with slip-in artwork. Finally, say what you want about CD-based mixing, but nothing beats the tactile experience of mixing vinyl records. I agree it's kinda stupid to just declare that one format is better than the other, but for a given individual and set of circumstances (as above) I think one can make a judgement call. Another thing is that most new movies are filmed digitally to begin with, so when you transfer to magnetic tape there's already a loss in quality.
