Folks! > i seem to be having trouble trying to download some orb stuff off of CR i > keep getting the incorect username ! anyone know whats going on ? > and yes i have tried ORB/BASIC 1) keep the time difference in mind (and the pc is not on all the time!); it's GMT + 1h over here...opening hours (guaranteed!) are 09:00 am - 5:30 pm 2) somehow my pc keeps jammin' overnight after I've left work (where the pc is); I have no clear explanation for this, but it does prevent one from logging in, unfortunately. I'm gonna end CR's any time soon. My contract ends in February, next year, after which I will be gone here anyway. And running the same thing at home with my 56k modem is definately not an option... :-< . Also, I got some remarks these last few weeks about my download/upload activities during work, so...gotta lay down low a little more I'm afraid. And programmes like Soulseek render ftp-sites a little obsolete these days, don't they..? Thanx for all your contributions over the years. It's been great fun exchanging music with you guys, and I hope it opened your musical eyes a little more. It certainly opened mine! Your taste is excellent... I only found the site whilst browsing the Yahoo Pick Of The year awards. On Another Point, Does anyone know any background about King Tut (Cardiff Casablanca Club Mix) By Dr Didg, Kris, you mixed this, why is it called the Cardiff Casablanca Club Mix, I live in Cardiff and am trying to compile a page of name of famous references and people in Music who are from here. I think producing completely sample based music is an artform much like composing but really different. To hear that quarter of a second in a recording or to realize you can play two songs over each other and create something completely different is much more difficult than it seems. What the sample based artist is doing is using recorded music as instruments. The sound of an lp backtracking or looped is NOT the same as the original recording. The recording is the violin while the sample is the note. The thing is to combine "live" musicians with these loops but not come off all milquetoast and new agey. hey folks, just returned home from indian food. wanted to mention that, upon sitting down, i heard a flute in the restaurant's music that turned out to be sampled in Promis off Cydonia. (that flute was always the best part of the song, for me at least.) anyway, i asked who it was again and again and finally they said it was Ravi Shankar. Sorry i couldn't get an album or song name, but in any case the flute sounds better in Promis than it does in it's original recording. as usual!! that's all. happy new year. michael
