Good afternoon from Rockport, Texas. My wife and I are considering purchasing a new M 17 for sailing out of Southwest Harbor, Maine. It will be our 2nd. The first was in 1983 which we stupidly sold after 3 years. So far we are planning to make a trip to the factory in December to take a look at the new production but, the folks at the plant have been less than enthusiastic about our making the trip. It makes us wonder what is up. We found Jerry Montgomery to be wonderful to work with in 1981 when we were building a Bristol Channel Cutter and using one of his dinks (absolutely the best tender ever built!) and also just teriffic when he delivered our M 17 to Corpus Christi, TX in 1983. Skip I think you wanted to come out and test sail a new Montgomery 17 here in southern California. (when you called us) I responded that we usually don't have a demo boat available because as soon as one is completed, it is shipped out. Sorry if this translated to ' less than enthusiatic ' to you. I simply don't have a boat to take you sailing in. Wish I did. We have visitors all the time at the boatshop and we welcome them. Some on this list have stopped by to say Hi, visit with us or pick up a new boat. I have sent you some recent photos and we will see you soon. We are looking forward to your visit Skip. Hi Skip Don't understand why you are reluctant to visit thr Montgomery factory, I was there in August in connection with my purchase of a new trailer for my M17 and had a very nice visit with Bob & a complete tour of the facility. Bob took time from his schedule to personally show me around and answer all my questions. I'm very satisfied with the trailer and appreciated a chance to see the inner workings of a Montgomery in production.
