Since the discussion has been oriented aft lately...how about some M15 motor bracket advice? My early 80s M15 has the original mount that juts out from the transom. I have bolted a 2x6 to the aft face of that mount, raising the motor only enough to clear the transom when the 2.5hp Suzuki 4 stroke is tilted to lock position. If I go forward past the companionway, the lower unit lifts out of the water enough to stop coolant flow. This is a problem I am willing to mitigate for a while by turning the motor off to go forward. I've been without a motor for my entire sailing experience (6yrs) so, for now, I am just enjoying the conveniece, but I'm sure there is a motor bracket solution that will answer when the motor is more than a conveniece and can be elevated to the status of an additional piece of safety equipment. There are so many options out there that I would like to hear from the group in order to have a better chance at only buying a bracket once - 'cause some of them are pricey. I intend to deliberately plan well enough not to depend on a motor, but, if I do need it, I will obviously want it to be dependably and functionally installed. For what it is worth, I agree with Daniel and have to say I can not imagine a better rudder than the stock rudder on my Montgomery 15. The raising and lowering mechanism is fantastic, if nothing else. The reason I say that is that my M15 came with a Ruddercraft that was like 6 inches longer than the original, and so much heavier. The person who had it made did it because he had too much weather helm and wanted to counteract that. I adjusted the rig for better balance, and went back to the original wood rudder. What a difference. It is light, responsive, and works correctly in the clever kick up arrangement of the original M15. So much better performance. I understand your reasoning with regards the slip etc, but I would be careful not to compromise the boat performance when sailing. I sold my M15 and now sail a SCAMP that I built. But the M15 is a wonderful craft.

Carbon fiber and vacuum drawn resin. sal" Sal, thanks for the approximate production numbers. Is there any chance of Sage resuming production? (I'd like to buy a new Sage 15 or SageCat someday.)

Strange Modified M15

I would like to know anything about the history of my recently acquired modified 1987 M15 bought from Marty Loken out of Port Townsend Wa. a few years ago . Does anybody recognize it ? It has a completely different cabin cockpit and deck shape. How is this even possible ?! I cant see any joints so I assume the entire deck/cockpit / cabin was fabricated and installed on an original hull. Sure is uglier than those original sweet cabin lines but as far as practicality goes it actually has an enviable amount of space inside. I've spent the covid year restoring her and she's sweet and sails well with the standard mast rigging and a replaced full batten main. Cruising the Desolation Sound are of BC where I live Roger Langmaid

M-15 ballast replacement

Does anyone have information on the best way to replace the iron ballast inthe keel? I discovered a leak coming in on the port side about 6” aft of the join of the keel with the bottom. it is additionally at the first edge of the first “lap”. I’m thinking ballast replacement because drilling into the area produced a lot of rusty water. Additionally, the lap is longitudinaly angled and protruding instead of being a fair curve’ the starboard side is similar but not so pronounced (nor leaking). No problem with raising or lowering the centerboard. Any suggestions would be appreciated
