I guess I just don't get it. Any time I wanted to lock the tiller down I used a clover hitch around the tiller and cleated off each end. Easy to adjust on the fly and holds firm.

Perhaps it's just preference? You can walk to town, take the bus or drive. All ways get to town. The tiller clutch is very convenient for some. just lift a finger. Dan: I spent my summers as a kid at that Lake. One thing I learned, from taking a dump on water skis in the middle of the Lake. It was "Look Ma, I can stand up in the middle out here". You just never know where the shallow sand bars will appear. You can always raise your "fin". Bruce King '84 M15

Tim - The TIllerclutch is a fine piece of equipment - It does not require: large hole in your boat's deck, the use of a tiller extension, (and I have to say of all the tiller extensions I have used the FS adjustable tiller extension is a part that losses its ability to maintain a particular length quite rapidly) - This adjustable capability is needed for the tiller box to work. Try the Tillerclutch - a VERY well made piece of equipment. NFIW with the Tillerclutch folk - met them - nice people GREAT product. I will be buying one for my own boat -BTW- I am replacing my current FS adj. tiller extension as I write - mine is an unreliable extension - my favorite universal joint tho ..........
