Hi Jazzy, I'm on Whidbey and I know of another M-17 sailor (Betsy) over across the Great Divide in Port Townsend. Enjoy your M-17. If you find yourself in the area, stop on by. My 17 is currently resting by the side of my garage. I'll probably have it in the Oak Harbor Marina for a month this summer. Do check out the Wooden Boat Festival and Pocket Yacht Palooza in PT. Hi John Sailed as far as Vanuatu then shipped to New Zealand. 6200 miles 100days The trailer was bought in New Zealand - Aakron. I think the frame is made in NZ and parts from China. Companionway hatch boards

While shopping for hatch board material I visited Hardwood Lumber Company in Houston, Tx. On sale was a wood called "sipo" also known as "utile". Turns out that sipo is a type of mahogany imported from central Africa. It is characteristically very much like mahoganys from around the world and is actually classified as a type of mahogany. It is also called utile. It was half the price of "regular mahogany" being 5.50 a board foot as opposed to $11 for mahogany. Both are used in boat building and look very similar. Sipo is also used in flooring and fine furniture so it is tough enough for hatchboards as well as hatches themselves. It works well with power and hand tools also. I have no affiliation with this outlet but this is a new product for me and perhaps it would work out for someone else doing winter projects on their boat. For $65 I was able to purchase one totally knot free board which is 14 inches wide and 9 feet long so all my hatch boards will be clear of knots, will all match, of course and should last a long time with proper protection from UV. I used this company for my Kingboard needs. They will cut any size in a number of colors and their prices are very reasonable. http://www.boatoutfitters.com/king-starboard.html Good luck with your projects. Presently I am also remaking the main hatch teak slides in Kingboard since I seem to be snapping off the nubs of teak on the inboard edges of them. This plastic is easy to shape and cut if you feed it slowly through a tablesaw blade. Work your projects so you don't have to glue anything. Hi from New Plymouth,New Zealand I'm about to buy a 2007 M17 I hope. It is currently is at a auction yard in Hamilton about 200 miles away that is only opening on the 11th. They have given me a price and I'v said that I want it . I don't know the hull # . I do know that it was called STRAWANZA photo attached. It never made it to Namibia, got as far as Vanuatu then shipped to New Zealand. It has been renamed WOROWLUA. Also attached is a photo at the Hamilton (New Zealand) auction yard. John, I have a new unused set of Starboard 3 piece boards for my 17 - - bead and cove horizontal edges and nonskid faces on exterior - they fit great BUT - I think I may build a new set from all composite - just because. I may sell mine (new, unused, for M-17 early deck) - as I have not made use of them, John Owens (JO Woodworks) made them for me and they are sitting here in my office - PM me if you may be interested - I am still using the original 1980 plywood boards to this day! Time to register! http://arizonayachtclub.org/ayc-bdrSail for three days, two days, or just one. http://arizonayachtclub.org/ayc-bdrThis AYC Birthday Regatta will be formatted like recent years, but with this pleasant change: Dillon's Restaurant has taken over the Saturday dinner space and will upgrade the room, the food, and the presentation. Friday brings the Friday Fracas, a one-day event for most, but for the Viper 640 fleet (and any other that elects to do it), the first day of a three-day regatta. Friday night is on your own. If it can be arranged, you may receive a discount for Dillon's Friday night. Saturday morning the Lake Pleasant Sailing Club will offer breakfast, with profits donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). Saturday racing comes in several parts: day two of the three-day regatta for Vipers; a TransLoch cruising fun race; day one of the Saturday-Sunday regatta for most fleets; and the Leukemia Cup, for entrants in a one-day competition that runs concurrently with everything else and benefits LLS. Saturday night will be the Leukemia Cup auction and Jo Grijalva reports that among the prizes, they've lined up four spectacular auction trips. She says you may want to line up friends to help bid on these, since they're each for 4-6 people. Here they are: Two 9-day trips with a Captain and personal concierge service in the British Virgin Islands. Both trips must be taken between October 7 and November 25, 2016. Captain would like the trips scheduled close together so he doesn’ t have to fly there twice. Each trip will accommodate 2-6 people in three staterooms. The vessel is a 2012 Lagoon 421, offered by Sail Fast LLC. One six-day and one three-day crewed charter in the San Juan islands that includes everything but your alcohol. The offer is for four people, but will accommodate up to six (with each additional person paying an additional one-quarter of the amount of the winning bid). Offered by NW Sailing Adventures.
