M-17's in San Francisco Bay area?

Hi all, I'll be in the SF Bay area end of this coming week (Fri-Sun). I'm wondering if there are any M-17's I could take a look at in person while I'm in the area (on the hard or in the water, either way helpful). Checking in

Well I went through my new boat today in the driveway. Pulled out a ton of camping gear that came with it. Went through all the lines and gear. Vacuumed it out and washed everything. Everything seems good and ready to go. Started working on refinishing the bright work as well. That Captains Varnish works really good. I've never used it before today. I plan on buffing out my yellow stripe too. I think it is going to look really nice. I am going to put it in the water for the first time tomorrow after church. Here are a couple photos. re-rigging with swageless fittings

Has anyone re-rigged their M15 with swageless fittings? I'm thinking about rigging my M15 with Hayn Hi-Mod eyes (part 14CTE18). Riggingonly.com has them for only $28.91 each, and it appeals to me to re-rig myself with just hand tools- and that I can then replace the rigging in the future with just $30 worth of 316 wire. The Hi-Mod doesn't have any cone or other parts to replace when disassembling and reassembling, so it can be taken apart regularly to inspect also. I have a couple questions: -I've seen that 15.5" is the spec for factory shrouds, would it be better to just make the new ones exactly that long instead of measuring the old ones? -If I use the old shrouds as a length template, how much length should I remove (if any) to account for stretch in the new wire? -How much length should I add to the forestay to allow for proper rake? My current three stays are the same length, and I have the forestay in the very last hole on the stay adjuster in order to get enough weather helm. Tyler Davis, CA M15 #157 "Defiant"

We tow our M15 with a 2006 Toyota RAV4 (3.5l V-6 with tow package). I can hardly tell the boat is back there. No issues with mountainous terrain, passing, stopping, etc. The V-6 (no longer available) is 269hp compared to the Outback 175hp or the CX5 185hp so while you may not be able to blow the doors off slower traffic while passing on hills with the boat in tow (not that I'm advocating that practice by any means), either vehicle should be adequate for the M15. Looking strictly at the numbers I might lean slightly toward the CX5 simply because of the 10 more hp and the 11 more fp of torque developed at a lower rpm than the Subaru. I haven't owned either vehicle and didn't research anything but the basic specs so there may be other factors of which I'm unaware! Ronstan are good, Harken 150's are the benchmark for ball bearing hard coated cam cleats (do NOT use cleat as template when drilling for mounting screws) Some Ronstans have steel teeth molded into the cams - depends on what type of line you are using - 7/16 is pretty large sounding line for an M-Boat. That may require a Large model cleat - Harken Offshore - as example. If the existing worn cleats are Harken - Ball bearings were available as a part (delrin) or hi-load balls (torlon). Schaefers are mid level pieces, hard to engage line compared to others - not particularly long lasting or smooth operating in my experience- just another opinion and worth 2 cents - no charge.( I changed out ALL Schaeffer cleats on my last S2 to Harken 150's - big difference.) So it turns out the venerable Lyle C Hess was right, in the long run - Americans are indeed interested in trailer sailing to avoid high marina costs, perhaps v now more than ever. Hello everyone. I just started sailing last summer. Just a little. Bought a small open bow 14 footer built for 2. It was full of holes and a mess. Had it in the garage thru the winter, fixed it all up and painted it. It turned out really nice, but almost instantly I wanted a little bigger boat. Something to take my grand kids out on. I saw a Montgomery for the first time a couple weeks ago and fell in love with it. I live in Alaska and soon found out there was only a handful up here.
