I was given this boat from my great uncle this year. I would love to restore this but looking for rigging instructions or manual to start off with. I would greatly appreciate any help or direction you can point me. Thanks for your time! Joshua

Roller furling on an M23

anyone have a comment on their experience with roller furling on their M23? my Ole'Body does not work so well with going forward single handed to hank on a smaller jib when the wind pipes up. I'd appreciate hearing here or off list . Thanks, Sent from my iPad

thanks for everyone's input on the furler option for the 23. We sailed our M17 with a Schaefer CF 500 for 7 years here in northern British Columbia. it is expensive to buy new sails and gear but we are going with the Schaefer CF 700 and buying a new genoa. I'm sure it is compromise from having the four hank on headsails I have on the 23 . BTW, these are in good shape and may be had reasonably priced if anyone is considering finding better than what they currently have. Sent from my iPad

We have roller furling on our 17 and really like it. We sail in British Columbia - cold water - sometimes choppy - two (older) people - the only way to go for safety. Janis

M-15 s voyage on Puget Sound

Congratulations to the M-15 sailors who made the two week voyage from South Puget Sound to Port Townsend, well over 100 miles each way by water. If you will send your e-addresses to me, I will send the photos I took, photos in the rain starting out, photos at Port Townsend, then photos when you returned to the launch ramp in Olympia and quickly loaded your boats on your trailers for your long drive home. M-15 forestay device

Sorry if I have fallen behind on this topic. These devices seem to be for tensioning the forestay and not for acting to quick connect the forestay. Is that right? These photos show the device I use on my M-15 forestay in place of a turnbuckle. It allows slack when open, but puts adequate tension on the forestay when closed, and locked. I bought it at a marine supply store, cost about the same as a turnbuckle. Cast iron centerboard treatments

Just dropped (well, not literally) my 180# cast iron centerboard. It is very rusty and one side is heavily eaten away. I have read all the very fine print on the Interlux cans of stuff I have. Still not sure how to proceed. I already have Interlux Watertite Epoxy filler and some Epoxy Primecoat left over from the deck. Also, on order, is the 2000E also from Interlux. The MSOG info states "...sandblasting, fairing rough areas with epoxy putty and then multiple coats of Interlux 2000E. After sandblasting I like to coat the entire board with epoxy before painting." Does that mean that it is preferable after sandblasting to just coat the entire board with epoxy? Epoxy after priming the cast iron with 2000E? Epoxy after priming the cast iron before fairing out the deep pitting in the cast iron?? First sandblasting, then epoxy filler, then priming with 2000E then epoxy the whole board before painting it??? I don't want to use the wrong order or the wrong stuff and have some layer slough off and take all the others with it. Also concerning the centerboard- the stop bolt which catches the board as it is lowered in my boat was just through bolted with the nut and bolt head left proud of the sides of the centerboard truck. Can I safely counter sink these into the centerboard trunk without punching through into the ballast compartment? The upper pivot bolt is well recessed at both ends. (and)Also I have in mind to install a couple of stainless steel tangs inside the centerboard slot. One end of each would be through bolted by the bolt that catches the centerboard as it is being lowered. The upper end of each tang, about 8 inches long would be through bolted by another 3/8 inch bolt higher up on the centerboard truck. The through bolt there would be placed outside the swing of the centerboard as it is lowered. This second bolt would in effect help alleviate all of the cleaving force of a "runaway centerboard" should its pennant fray or become disconnected from the board while it is being lowered and prevent the lower catch bolt from being smashed out of the bottom of the centerboard truck. It looks like there is enough clearance inside the cb truck slot to allow for a couple of eighth inch thick tangs. Here also the question arises concerning being able to counter sink the bolt into the sides of the centerboard trunk without punching into the ballast compartment. Any thoughts on this procedure? AZ Yacht Club Fall Racing Series

I was wondering if anyone would consider participating in the Fall race series put on by the Arizona Yacht Club. They run a fall and Spring series and held at Lake Pleasant. The fall series runs about every other weekend from Sept 20th until Nov 16th. Each fleet volunteers one race weekend to help run the races and host the Saturday dinner, so it's actually only 4 race weekends. You don't have to participate every race weekend unless you are trying for the series title. You also don't have to become a member to register and you could even register for a single day or weekend if you want. Saturday races start at 12:30 and go until about 4:30 and Sunday races start at 9:00 and are over by 1:00. I participated in the PHRF Non-Spin handicap fleet last year and plan to again this year. There are only about 5 boats in the fleet and my M17 is the smallest and slowest boat. So we watch everyones transoms through the races and find out on Monday after the handicaps are applied, how well we did. It shore would be more fun if there were a few Monty's out there to race with side by side. Here is the AZ Yacht Club web site in case anyone is interested.
