Thinking of selling M15 #616

The operative word is Thinking J I have new trailer tires, outboard mount on the trailers, spare of course and the trailer was inspected in Maryland in 2011. Boat upgrades are new Hyde sails, a new Potter jib which I have as a storm (never used because I was never over powered.yet). New Ida Rudder w/mast crutch. New custom made boat sling for haul out by crane. Cockpit Teak grating so feet stay dry. Honda 2 hp outboard. VHF radio and mast mounted antenna. Tiller tamer and tiller extension. Boat and trailer are located in the Metro Washington DC/Baltimore and Annapolis area. Boat condition is 8-8.5 out of 10 as I should polish her up and clean up teak. What do you guys feel the sell value is. These boats are never found on the east coast is seems. I am eying that new if Jerry gets done sanding soon Sage15 as a uni rig...because I will soon be retired and need a simpler sail plane. Opinions appreciated. When I rebuild the foredeck of my M17, I removed the single cleat in the center of the deck. I installed two new cleats, one on each side, mounted on top of varnished hardwood pads to raise the height enough so docking lines clear the toerail. They have backing plates (of course) I also installed a chock at the tip of the bow to guide an anchor rode. On the M23, I use a length of heavy, clear plastic hose slid over the dock lines where they contact the toerail. Knots in the line keep the hose in place. Easy. I'll look for a pic of my M17 foredeck mod. Bow chocks for M17 with aluminum toe-rail.

I am planning to keep my 1976 M17 (aluminum toe-rails) on a mooring this summer, but it is curiously bereft of bow chocks and I'm trying to decide what to do about that. The toe-rails are pretty smooth; do people just put some chafe gear on their mooring pendant and let it hang over the side? If not, what have people done to integrate bow chocks with the aluminum toe-rail? Photos of particularly elegant solutions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Correct the hull deck flange is completely different on the aluminum rail boats versus the teak to rail boats. Threw together some clips of different video qualities from different cameras in a new program that improves the quality of the lower end shots to make them more palatable when in the company of true HD clips. Was pretty pleased with the outcome. Some of this video is actually phone video. Thought I'd share it here since there is quite a bit of lapstrake being thrown around in there, along with some of the other boats I've been lucky enough to sail over the last two years. You might recognize the face of some Montgomery speed-demon I've been known to keep company with as well. :-) For me...the local sailing season is winding down. I have been researching trailerable boats, downsizing from a cape dory 22. Am 69 years old and no longer want a boat with slip fees, and want something I caln handle by myself (wife is good to hold tiller, and launching), but otherwise just me. I would like to know if there is anyone in the Houston area that I could possibly go out with to see what a Montgomery 15 sails like. I live in league city. phone 281-910-4267. Have owned many boats over the years, and have crossed the gulf 4 times, sailed to gualemala, Veracruz, florida and the bahama's. if you have a montogomery 15 and are willing I will pay for the day.

Small Jibs for Montgomery 15

I am interested in the groups thoughts on small jibs for my Montgomery 15. I have always been a little slow to reef. For instance, I was out with one of my brothers and one of his kids in the Montgomery 15 out of the Berkeley Marina in the San Francisco Bay in some typical summer wind. The wind was comfortable without reefs or a small(er) headsail with my 200 pound or so brother helping me hold the boat down. I did notice once we were out that every single other boat around, most in the 30's of feet long, were all reefed. I have never had the option of a smaller jib on this boat. Doing it again, I probably still wouldn't have reefed that day with the ballast I had along. Still, reducing sail area is something I should be able to do, especially as I start to venture off shore a bit more and further away from harbors. My main has a single reef, which I have only used once. I am planning a trip to the Sea of Cortez this October. Jerry Montgomery mentioned the idea here and I liked it so am planning to go. Any body of water has stories of how strong it can blow there, and the Sea of Cortez is not exception. Because I would like to be able to venture out a ways while there and be able to get around if the wind does pick up, I figure I should get a smaller jib and a second reef put in my main for those windy times. My sails are Elliot Pattison and I have been very happy with them. The jib is a standard one. I asked Elliot Pattison for a price for a storm jib and he wondered if an 85% jib might make more sense. He said the storm jib is probably best for heaving to in over 25 to 30 knots of wind, as opposed to sailing which the 85% would be better for. I do like strong wind and the ability to sail in it, plus it seems prudent to be able to continue to function as the wind climbs uncomfortably. I haven't heard of Montgomery 15's with more than 2 reef points so assume that 2 is a reasonable maximum. In addition to wondering what size jib would allow me to progress in as strong winds as it is reasonable to make progress in a Montgomery 15, I wonder what size jib would best match a typical Montgomery 15 main with two reefs in it.
