Hi Everyone, In the spring I purchased a 1993 Montgomery 15 in near mint condition. I enjoyed sailing her all summer on Lake Arthur about 40 miles north of Pittsburgh. I've sailed nearly all my life and have owned several boats (Flying Scot, C Scow, Capri 22, O'Day Daysailer, Compac 16). I'm really very pleased with the M-15. She is all that I hoped for and more. I'm looking forward to following posts on the forum and learning more about my boat. I have two questions: 1. I'd like to raise the boat off the trailer (just a few inches would do) to apply antifouling paint to the portion of the hull that rests on the trailer bunks. I saw a few pictures that involved lifting the entire trailer, then bracing the boat and dropping the trailer. I don't feel comfortable doing that. Does anyone have another idea? I may just go to a marina and rent a lift. 2. I want to swim off the boat, but I'm really reluctant to drill holes in the transom for a permanent swim ladder. Can anyone recommend one of those removable ladders that hook over the rear coaming? Thanks. As I look out my office window at the grey Pittsburgh winter, my thoughts turn to sailing. Stanley: Is your main loose footed? :: Dave Scobie :: m17 #375 SWEET PEA ---- In its past life, my new-to-me 1976 M17's boom snapped in two and was welded back together. The repair seems solid but the aesthetics have been compromised. What was the original boom section and is it still available? If not, what would be a suitable replacement? I'm in New England so Dwyer is actually a good option for me. Their DM-3 section is a close match, but it appears they only sell it as a mast section and do not carry boom ends or goosenecks for it. The DM-2 looks a little too flimsy. That leaves the DM-275, which should be stout enough but has an elliptical instead of a teardrop section. Thoughts?

looking for an M15 Mast Extrusion on the West Coast

Hi Everyone. M15 owner in San Francisco here. I'm trying to figure out if I can purchase a replacement mast extrusion for my M15 from a spar maker on the West Coast of the US. Basically, the Dwyer M-4 but without the $200 shipping cost from Connecticut. On the advice of Svensen's Marine in Alameda, I've tried Ballenger Spars in Watsonville, CA (nothing that small) as well as Lefeill in LA (they could only suggest Dwyer for a boat as small as a Monty 15). Any tips or advice appreciated. I just can't believe that Dwyer is the only company in the US that can provide me with a mast. Shipping cost aside, I'd love to not have to go with Dwyer as their customer service has been terrible for me in the past. Thanks, Thom San Francisco
