I have a M15. I ground out about a silver dollar size hole on either side of the pin. I then used glassed fibers over the pin. Then I sealed over the holes following the Interlux system for barrier coating. Actually I sealed the bottom of the keel, drilled a slightly larger and filled both sides with expoxy. I then redrilled it for the pin. I barrier coated the entire keel and board and then coated them with VC Performance Epoxy. I did this because I had a little water get into the ballast cavity. Center Board Weight

Hi All, First of all, I live vicariously through all of you and your group adventures. My family and I sail "Molly M" (#383, 1984 vintage) out of Brickyard Cove on the SF Bay. Would love to see some of you on the bay sometime. I am writing to "weigh-in" on the centerboard weights being bandied about. I have pulled Molly's CB and it was heavy, but I think it weighs about 175lbs. If it weighs 300...I'm a much stronger man than I thought. I ended up having the boat hauled off of the trailer and doing all my work in the yard. Quite expensive, but I had all the access I needed. Just so you know, 24" of clearance is plenty (I think you can get away with 19) My biggest mistake was that I decided to blast the CB and then coat it with multiple coats of epoxy before trying to refit....after trying to get it to fit for 6 hours and wondering if I was going mad, I ground the epoxy off, and what do you know...the tolerances are tighter than you think. A thin coat of epoxy and a thin coat of bottom paint are all I could put on the CB and still have it fit. Just a word of warning to all that plan a CB refit. Best to all of you. Jimmy, Uh...I probably beveled out an area around the pivot pin about the size of a Thirstbuster lid (pretty technical measurement huh?)....Then I had a couple of circles of the bi-axial cloth, each one bigger than the next, and glassed them in. The bi-axial is thicker than the regular cloth so I beveled deep enough so that the cloth pretty much filled the bevel...then I used some thickened epoxy as filler to fair it out. I haven't had a problem since I did that, but I'm not saying there isn't a better way...that's just what I did out of frustration of the dang thing coming out. The year you and us and Matt and Howie sailed up the coat to Ventura, we stayed and extra day at Channel Islands and had a pretty romping sail in some good swell out to about the platform "Gina" then, after we were both laughing and pretty bruised up from banging into every corner and edge that the cockpit or cabin could find to attack us with, we turned around. When we put the boat on the trailer I almost dumped my shorts when I saw how far that pin had backed out! That would have been "interesting" to have a 300+ lb piece of quadrant shaped cast iron banging around under the boat swinging from the pennant....until the pennant broke! If you decide to go that route let me know. That cloth is expensive and I think I have some left over from my keel job I could send you. S

Hi Eldor, Dorothy. We got home last week. "Justus" is back under snow. It was a great event. We met lotsa great people. Put faces to names. Sailing was great and our little M15 performed well. This was our first real sail on our "new" 1986 boat. Harry Pattison's sails worked great in all winds. Jerry designed and built a great boat. Great seminars as well. Gail and I would like to thank Sean and Jo for their efforts. Also special thanx to Capt Howie & Judy, Larry and Gary, Eldor and Dorothy for their efforts as well. looking forward to next year.
