Hi all, You could call this "Why Women Live Longer Than Men, Part Two" or "Fun With the New Camera" A broken trailer bunk required that I get the boat off the trailer, a project that had me procrastinating while I tried to figure out how best to go about it. I puzzled and fretted and got a few more grey hairs. With help from the MSOG photo site (Thanks Bill!) and Kevin Pierce's pix of his Precision 18 up on blocks in the driveway (and with visions of the boat falling into my new garage door), I finally did it. If anyone is interested, there are a few photos of the process at http://web.mac.com/gburmeyer/ There is almost certainly a better way to do this, but this worked for me. The trailer bunks are fixed and tomorrow I'm going to lower the boat back onto the trailer. Gulp... Maybe some more pix after that. It's time to start sailing again... George Burmeyer 1986 M15 #385

Mainsail Advice

Greetings all, This is my first post. Long time lurker, first time poster. I am looking at building a new mainsail for my M-15. I have a kit from Sailrite that was originally made for an O'Day 20 that I will adjust to fit the M-15. According to my calculations and from input from the good folks at Sailrite, this adjustment should be quite simple - simply reduce the luff to the appropriate length and shorten the foot slightly. The only difference so far is the weight of the cloth which is 4.9 oz compared with the typical 3.8 oz. I have been told that this should make no appreciable difference in sail shape and performance but should positively affect sail life. My main question, (no pun intended) is whether to build the sail with or without a roach and battens. My read of Don Casey's "This Old Boat," and Emiliano Marino's "The Sailmakers Apprentice" leads me toward no battens. I do not, however, want to sacrifice performance too much. The boat is new to me, so am looking for input from others who know the sailing characteristics of the M-15. My intended use is day sailing on Lake Michigan out of Milwaukee, with 1 or 2 week-long cruises each season. Any input is appreciated. John Hippe Hull # 405 - currently nameless

soft covers/caps for nuts

Our local Ace Hdwe has a section of flat boxes full of goodies in the nuts n' bolts department. I would expect to find this sort of thing, probably in a variety of colors. Ace, as I am sure you know, sells items individually so you can get just the quantities of the sizes you need. John in Tucson "Coyote" FD17 #69

Our local HomeDepot has soft caps in different colors and sizes for this use. You can cut them down to fit the exact length of thread sticking out.

Don't know any other word for what I'm looking for. All us us have nuts/bolts protruding inside our boats. Has anyone ever heard of a soft cap (rubber, vinyl, etc) to fit various sized nuts/bolts? Gotta be out there somewhere. I've thought of the dab of silicon, but I don't like that alternative. I'm looking for a specific product.
