For trailering I just slack off the running rigging enough to let the mast go into its travelling position. The only thing that ever gets detached is the bottom end of the forestay. Centerboard Won't Drop

As some of you may remember, I just bought my M15 a few months ago at what I thought was a very good price, knowing it needed a little work and hoping not too much more than that. Well, I finally got the thing off the trailer and up on stands and one of my WORST FEARS HAS BEEN REALIZED. The centerboard will not drop down -- it seems to be frozen up in the centerboard trunk. I have tried banging on it with a rubber mallet a little bit, I tried some selected curses that sometimes work, but no luck whatsoever. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if there are any great tips for getting the thing out. I'm afraid to try prying too much for fear of cracking the fiberglass around the slot. I'm considering cutting a hole in the top of the centerboard trunk, that I can push a rod down through. Steve, You might try just running a water hose in the cockpit and seeing if the water might that might loosen things up. Good luck Randy W. Tod, great stuff you sent in. I was wondering about your reference to the [two] rudders. Are they flat plate aluminium ? AND, what might be your spin on a foiled rudder for better performance. Raise/Lower Sail

In the topping lift discussion, Connie mentioned standing on deck vs. standing in the cabin while raising the sails. I have one foot along the toe rail and the other knee on top of the cabin. I have not found a comfort level for this process and am looking for suggestions. I have thought about standing in the cabin as I would avoid climbing up to raise the main, climbing down, going to port and climbing back up for the jib. However, getting bonked by the boom is a concern. How do other group members raise and lower their sails? Thanks in advance, Steve R. M-15 #119 Lexington, KY

Mast Clearances

Does anyone have working mast clearances for the 15, 17 and 23? I know there are factors like load, tide, etc., but just a safe number that generally works with the boats. We can add for the taller mast, if anyone has one and knows how much taller they are. Besides for my own information, I want to post it on the web site boat specs. Hi Joe, When I made my topping lift, I installed the smallest (I think it was a Harken) cheek block I could find, at the top of the mast. I use an 1/8" dacron line, which has enough strength so that you can lean on the boom without danger of the topping lift breaking. A bowline to something convenient at the boom end makes life simple. The line then goes through the cheek block and back down the mast to a cleat. (...and I can't tell you at this point if I used what was already there, or if I installed it just for the topping lift). As you say, everything is controlled from the mast - either standing in the cabin - or standing on deck as I do, while raising the main and slacking off on the topping lift.
