Hi guys, well, I´m so excited waiting for the new album, and my brain is working so fast with many questions probably were discussed here (or not): 1. There´s any info about two releases (worldwide and german versions)? 2. Any info about a new single (Vitamin probably)? I got my TdF 2003 single both in 12" and CDS versions and I have to say the 12" has a marvelous sound, much better IMHO than Expo 2000 12". I was astonished with the low frequencies... a really fantastic work of Mr. Hilpert and the e-drum. But the single has not strong bass lines as previous KW works and I have to confess that for me this is not the best tune of KW. TdF 2003 has much less keys and textures than previous KW albuns. I hope the album has a lot more of bass. I didn´t hear nothing from previous 97/98 unreleased tracks, except some melody that looks like tribal melody. Anyone found any other unreleased tracks reference? The only thing that pissed me off is that they could make a new sleeve for the album. Quite the same from 83... Album impressions

I just got a chance to listen to the complete album, and I'm very excited about this new release! This isn't a review, just my initial reaction to the new material. The 'Vitamin' track is my favourite, having a 'Man Machine' (the album) kind of sound, but the others are great too, some reaching a kind of hypnotic TEE feeling. All of them, however, are complex productions with layers upon layers of sounds while still retaining the minimalist Kraftwerk trademark. Even the long, seemingly monotone pieces never get boring - these tracks evolve and pulsate all the time. At the concert in Paris last autumn, they played some new "techno" like tracks, which I assumed was part of their new album material, but luckily this was not the case. This album is a thourough quality release, and I eagerly await their new tour dates - I'm willing to travel! :) With regards, -simon lindgren

Another opinion after listening to the album

I have been listening to the album two times this morning. I'm sorry to say but I think this is an album that I will soon foget. The long Tour de France etape 1-3 sounds like some boring technomuzak. Of the other new tracks i think it's only "Vitamin" and maybe "La forme" that sounds "OK". I did say that I "would not like to say the article was wrong" I just had my own view. My little essay was for the KW mailing list and not for the "general audience" fed by the "simplified thinking of the music journalist". I really don't care what the music press say, I don't really like pop/rock music anyway and I think KW are well above what goes on in that environment. Just wondered if the dedicated KW observers shared my point of view, "a lot of people" reffered to a lot of the KW mailing list. I wouldn't expect the readers of the general music press to accept my indepth or over-interpetion of KW (or any other music group for that mater). And probably "a lot of people" on the KW list will think I've got head up Herr Hutters arse as well. But hell I only ever write to the list every four years so (and I usually inadvertantly end up creating a flame war as well). So anyway I agree with both of you. A few more days are nothing compared with the many years of waiting since their last album. I live in the USA, and the scheduled release here is August 19th, so the best and fastest thing for me to do was ordered it online through amazon.uk, where the scheduled release is much sooner. I've paid a few extra dollars, but a new KW release is worth it. The one criticism I have about these release dates is that I don't understand why they don't release the record simultaneously worldwide. That would of cut down piracy a bit. E

TdF Soundtracks

Today I had the chance to hear the entire album (it was promotional copy with cat. number KW3 available only for journalists). The good news is that the whole album is 57:02 minutes long (which is not topical in case of Kraftwerk). As mentioned before: it's concept album - the sub-title 'Soundtracks' gives good impression what you might expect. It all sounds like (e.g.) real soundtrack for some movie about Tour de France or cycling. And I also feel the presence of this 'romantic' spice which I liked from TEE. Already known 'Vitamin' has good hit potential. I hope it will be released as another single and wih accompaning video-clip (on heavy rotation on MTV & VIVA :-) For those who have the disc already: could you please check Track 5 (Chrono) at 00:39-00:40. It seems there is some mastering-error at this point (I hope the 'retail' version will be OK). One thing I regret: the three 'new' tracks from 1997 have gone somewhere. I hope they are not vanished completely, as they were logical bridge between 'old' and recent Kraftwerk. We all have been waiting for this for so many years - it's great to finally have new album from THEM. This music is step forward for me. Ralf & Florian: besten Dank! It's quite good album! All Werkers: please go to shop around the corner and buy the album as soon as it's released! It's worth of it (I'm going to buy it in both: vinyl and CD version - I have strange feeling that it will sound even better pressed on good_old_analogue_vinyl_long_play). And I keep my fingers crossed for another European tournee soon! TK
