Re: [KLF] What Makes a Remix (was Re: [KLF] KLF vs Villalolbos...)
...and actually, the more I think about Thomas' explanation the more it makes sense. In that it's not a remix at all, but a track inspired by or based on. This makes sense in the abstract, but I still feel it's improper to classify such a track as a remix since that implies some sort of mixing of the original track. And if I pick up a 12" claiming to be a remix of a classic track I expect to be reminded of that track. -paul

I finally got around to seeing the movie "I, Robot" last night. I read all of Asimov's books a few years ago and throughout the movie I was thinking to myself "Apart from the title, the 3 laws, and a few character names, I don't see a lot of Asimov in this." Sure enough, in the closing credits, rather than the usual "Based on the books of Isaac Asimov", there was the more unusual: "Story *suggested* by the books of Isaac Asimov" (my emphasis) I reckon Villalolbos' "remix" is more an independent work using, at most, a single "suggestion" from a KLF track.
