Re: [KLF] Re: 12" acetate @ebay
Tadaa! And here I am!
The story I heard about the "Deep Shit" 12" (and Thomas should be able to confirm this) was that someone in London DOES have the record,
Yep. The same person also put it on eBay for sale some months ago, but withdrew the auction later. Got to ask him wether he still owns his copy. (*looks@wallet*)
containing 3 tracks "Deep Shit", "M E (Club)" and "Lover's Side (Extended)". Thomas recorded it, when he visited him - but its possible other copies/versions have "escaped" since.
Not entirely true. I wasn't there myself, but two of us (Jens and Torsten (?)) went seeing him, and along some other interesting stories and cool items (I got a 12" inner sleeve with drawings by Jimmy all over it) he also dug out the disc with "Deep Shit" and "Lovers' Side (extended)", allowing my mates to record it onto minidisc.
The discography lists two versions of "Deep Shit" on the 12" ("D S (Part 2)" and "D S (Part 3 - The Illegal Mix"), but I've only ever heard the one with KSTJ sampled on it, as described. It even has a catalogue number which refers to KSTJ - KLF 010IR (the "I" for illegal?)
It's still unconfirmed wether or not THIS particular entry is legitimate or all made up. The one on the 12" mentioned above plays the version with KSTJ, YMCA and The Queen & I, with Bill shouting "Stop that pop shit, what we want is some deep shit!" (also part of the hidden track on R&R)
I have no idea what the record actually looks like - but the presence of a (very good sound quality) Lover's Side extended version and a Madrugada Eterna (Club Mix) without all the pops and crackles the Dutton 12" has, suggests that its, if not entirely genuine, then at least made up by someone VERY close to the band (didn't Youth and Alex and B & J have a sort of thing going with limited editions for friends only back in '89 - like the WTIL (Monster Attack Mix) and possibly Love Trance?)
That certain someone is indeed very close connected to Jimmy. He also told us about some of Jimmy's earlier remixes long before Crapola did, as well as confirmed that the 5ive remix indeed exists, but never got published due to his non-commercial sound for the label. ..::// Thomas
Hi, just my two pence for this...

The record itself is a white label without sleeve or cover. As far as I can recall, the runout groove was "DS-1 A" and "DS-1 B" and there _might_ have been that Adrenalin writing... After that visit, I recorded that MiniDisc digitally onto my harddisc and I must say that especially "Lovers' Side" sounds great. Just like every other KLF track on vinyl sounds. No pops or clicks by the way. I think the person who still owns it has never played it! Deep Shit, however, sounds crappy. I suppose they ripped "The Queen And I" off their own 1987 copies without having still the master tapes. That would explain the bad quality. The only thing that counts is that I know that this record is genuine. Hope this helps. :) Dan --- a.k.a. Kuta, KLF Online (www.klf.de)

Thanx for the info Dan, indeed the only mp3 I have come across of Deep Shit is encoded at 96 kbps which is just about the lowest standard for 44100 Hz stereo, but if the sound qual was poor in the first place I guess this makes no difference. Regarding what you say about all KLF 12"s sounding "great", for me the only exception to this is KLF004T. My copy was bought new although it was the 91 or 92 reissue...but the vinyl is fairly thin and during the kinda high-pitched "ooo-OOO" bits in WTIL (I can post a time for this sound if no-one gets what I mean) it sounds quite distorted on my copy, on both sides/mixes. Perhaps I was just unlucky and got a bad pressing but the 'classic trance mix' on KLF004R, which is one of the KLF004T mixes, is the same. This mix (the one with a beat) can be found on some CD singles of WTIL Live At Trancentral (eg the Australian 'Wicker Man' CD) with perfect sound quality but i've yet to find the other mix (with no beat) on CD, or even a decent mp3. Does anyone have any suggestions? And does anyone else have a similar copy of KLF004T or do everyone else's play perfectly? =) Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - More reliable, more storage, less spam
Right, this all seems a bit misleading.. Acetate is the wax kind of stuff you cut into before sendng off to get a record pressed. If it is going to be used for a 12" record, they use a 14" acetate so you can handle it without damging the surface that has been cut. The cutting guy can etch in his own name and the catalogue number, the pressing plant (adrenaline, damont, mpo etc) can also stamp or add detail to the run out groove. Dj's still cut one off acetates to play before the vinyls are available as a one off, but less now due to cdr's. If it was for manufacture it would have detail in the run out grrove (catalogue number) and would be 14" for a 12" record. If it was an individual record, then i have never know anybody ever to write stuff in the run out groove. So whatever it is, it would probably be a test press. There are always a few test presses, damont for instance used to do 6 as standard. ----- Original Message ----- From: Simon Glass To: All bound for Mu-Mu Land.
