Just wanted to say, from all the tracks of KLF, I like the 'ambient' tracks the most. They just seem to withstand time the best, still sound relevant after all those years. To be honest: KSTJ really does NOT sound that 'rock' at all ;) Am I missing some ambient-like tracks from KLF, aside from Chill Out, Waiting for the Rites Of Mu and Space? They really showed their best in those tracks! And aside from The Orb, any other suggestions towards such 'inspired' ambient tracks? I don't mean the New Age shit and blabla, like Enigma....
There's a remix KLF did for Pet Shop Boys called "It must be obvious (UFO mix) which isn't a remix at all but a new ambient KLF track recorded inbetween Chill Out and Waiting that merely samples the original PSB track and uses it as a starting point. You should seek it out as it sort of forms a trilogy with Chill Out and Waiting. Dan On Sep 14, 2011, at 7:46 PM, Martijn van Rheenen <rheenen@gmail.com> wrote:

"KSTJ" is certainly not "rock" - but it's certainly Pet Shop Boys! (In fact, left to its own devices, it could morph into one of their hits very easily, I think!) There's also the ambient-ish "Trancentral Mix" of Depeche Mode's "Policy of Truth", which is usually seen as the "other" KLF remix from 1990. Careful, though, the US CD mis-labels the mix, and I think the only CD that actually features it properly is the UK LCDBONG19. I'd also recommend the Orb/"Orbital" remix of Marathon's "Love Park", which is a LXD and Rockman reworking - although it's a bit more Italian House than proper ambient: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMjl-VqFvJI As far as other ambient bands are concerned, I am a huge Boards of Canada fan - a duo that have a similar air of mystery and vociferous internet following to the KLF. Start with their "proper" debut 'Music Has The Right To Children'. But be careful of anything that claims to be by them from before 1996 (early EPs, etc.) They tend to be internet fakes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exnbfHq2P1c John On Thu, Sep 15, 2011 at 3:08 AM, Martijn van Rheenen <rheenen@gmail.com>wrote:

On the inlay for compilation album "Indie Top 20 Volume VIII", Bill is briefly interviewed about KSTJ (which is on there) and he says: "We really wore our Pet Shop Boys obsessions on our sleeves with this track". ;-) I was in contact ODC1 a few years ago, and he very kindly sent me a couple of CDRs of "Chill Out" and other remixes. I ripped them and passed them on a few years ago, though, so I only have them at 128kps too now. :-( Incidentally, I remember downloading the "Chill Out" remixes from thismeanswar.net on dial-up back in 2002. It took a whole afternoon! On Thu, Sep 15, 2011 at 11:27 AM, Chris Renwick <dejaya@gmail.com> wrote:

The KLF never made a secret of the fact they were big PSB fans and even proposed a joint single with them in 1991. I think the abandonded White Room OST in 1989 was their "PSB" album as they thought PSB had the "in" sound in 1989. Dan On Sep 15, 2011, at 6:27 AM, Chris Renwick <dejaya@gmail.com> wrote:

I'd second the recommendation of Boards of Canada, some really great tracks. Heard their album playing in a music shop on Hatton Gardens years ago and went straight to the counter and said "can I buy the album for whatever this is that's playing, and also, who is it?" I was going to recommend FC Kahuna and Royksopp, but not sure if they're classed as ambient? But some tracks are great to listen to and chill out, as it were, so I always think of them as ambient. Also, I've really been getting into Urgess' music recently. Not really ambient though, but might be worth checking out if you're looking for something different than usual, he seems to churn out tracks that are across a whole range of styles. At the least, the Spiderman theme is worth listening to for a chuckle if nothing else :) On 15 Sep 2011, at 10:40, John Milne <paranormalhandy@gmail.com> wrote:

I was a fan of Mixmaster Morris and Future Sound of London during the era of the KLF. I would tenuously say it's a kind of early 90's urban UK ambient style.
