Hmm ... did anyone ever see the old punk TV show "Revolver" (or indeed repeats) which features a drunk Peter Cook as compere. The only act he ever seemed to have time for was the Tom Robinson Band. Some-one gets a mention just for using klf samples.... i'd be more pivved off cos 1600 drums is listed and people sell it on ebay (amongst others) as the klf/jams... Whenever Scooter are mentioned on the list I must admit I become rather bewildered...where is the connection? I won't push my opinions of Scooter on everyone else (probably best not to) but aside from some KLF-influenced imagery (and perhaps something in the lyrics? I forget and don't care to find out) I fail to see the connection. I mean the music is dissimilar right? What next, DJ Otzi shouts "Justified!" in one of his tracks and has a sheep on the CD cover, so he gets mentioned on the list and his music appears on the KLF section of the ftp? IMHO the best thing to come out of Scooter was the 'Moped' pastiche, effectively a techno version of Coldplay's 'Clocks' with a man shouting randomly over the top, along with the token chipmunk-pitched vocals. I would be interested to find out other regular list contributors' opinions of Scooter, perhaps clarifying the connection, although I do agree with John that they are better than most boy band crap, in the same way as, say, Aqua or Vengaboys were =) tbc. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Something which I've wondered since it first came out: Did Bill and Jimmy originally intend Maxine Harvey to sing the single mix of "Justified and Ancient", and only changed it once Tammy Wynette got involved? Is that why we have the "All Bound For Mu Mu Land" version (as featured on CHOC ICE 1 and the CD single/12"?) John

Back to boots, back to legality

Earlier last month, people were talking about the legalities of selling on bootlegged or re-compiled KLF recordings. I myself hold the view that the KLF are a bit like the Sex Pistols (in more ways than mere situationism!) For years, legitimate record shops like Tower or Virgin sold (and still sell) "semi-official" recordings of the Sex Pistols (things like live gigs and the "Spunk" demos, etc); the same was/is also true of Beatles interview discs. With the KLF, we had "Waiting for the Rites of Mu" appearing in Virgin (I bought my copy in late 1997 from their Dundee branch) along with 2000's appearance of vinyl boots, such as JAMSLP5 and KLF8R, in HMV and on the HMV on-line catalogue. Another of 2000's bootleg "reissues" was the full version of "1987" JAMSLP1 - and being a bootleg, the sale of this record was technically illegal no matter what. However, is anyone who sells ORIGINAL copies of "1987" on LP and cassette break the law too? Can Abba's lawyers nab you for selling an original "1987" now, with the illegal samples on it? John
