SB 110 Water Quality Amendments<http://lwvutah.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=936d7799344001655482dd40f&id=f3af253b6e&e=816874271d>, Senator Hinkins Explain to your senator that this bill does not promote good science. The bill is working its way up the Senate calendar, with a first vote possible by Friday, February 19, with the second (final) vote Monday, February 22. * The legislation would allow a 3-person panel of scientists – paid for by an effected industry– to conduct a “peer review” and possibly overturn Division of Water Quality rules - thus permitting sewage plants to exceed standards for discharge of pollutant into the state’s waters, especially the Great Salt Lake. * The EPA has already warned, this bill would violate provisions of the Clean Water Act. * SB 110 is a giant step backwards in our efforts to clean up Utah’s waters. SB 110 could lead to more pollution of Great Salt Lake and other state waters. Explain to your senator that this bill does not promote good science. Give your personal perspective.
