Wow! What a year! Our snowpack for the Great Salt Lake Drainage is now 201% with the all-important Bear River drainage being 184% We have already come up 3 feet with another 3 feet very possible. It is likely we will see the lake rise through all of June and into early July. If this happens, we will only see the lake probably drop one foot by the end of Fall. This is all very good news. I never though we would be putting boats back in the marina this year. I know everyone is eager to launch their boats but there is some work we need to finish before this happens. This winter was windy and brutal on the marina. We need to make sure all the navigation buoys are back in their proper place. That is being done now. And we need to continue to inspect docks before they can be rented and occupied. That is going to take a bit of time but we are trying to complete that work as soon as possible. There are also some things each boat owner must ensure before launching and renting a slip. Obviously make sure your boat is seaworthy and in good condition. Make sure you have good or new dock lines. Bow lines, stern lines, and a minimum of two spring lines are highly recommended. Besides that, there are some very IMPORTANT POINTS before you can launch and occupy a slip. * Your boat SHALL be currently registered and display the proper stickers before launching, renting, and occupying a slip. * 73-18-7 Registration Requirements. * (1)(a) Except as provided by Section 73-18-9, the owner of each motorboat and sailboat on the waters of this state shall register with the division as provided in this chapter * (1)(b) A person may not place, give permission for the placement of, operate, or give permission for the operation of a motorboat or sailboat on the waters of this state, unless the motorboat or sailboat is registered as provided in this chapter. * To rent a slip a boat owner shall have a minimum of $50,000 bodily injury/death and $15,000 property damage insurance. * All storage fees at Great Salt Lake State Park shall be paid up and current before a Boat Slip Lease and dock assignment will be issued. * A Boat Slip Lease will need to be filled out and filed with the Great Salt Lake State Park PRIOR to being issued a slip assignment and occupying a slip. * Current registration and proof of insurance is required before a Boat Slip Lease will be authorized. As per 73-18-7 (1)(b) cannot allow permission for launching of a vessel and occupying a slip without the vessel being currently registered. * A copy of the current registration and proof of insurance shall be provided to the marina office PRIOR to completion of a Boat Slip Lease and occupying a slip. * Slip assignments are at the discretion of the Harbor Master. We will strive to assign the slip you want but we cannot guarantee it. The water is still very shallow and many of your old slips are just not deep enough to rent yet. K dock did not fare the winter very well and needs work before it will be available.
