FOTD 25-03-02 (The Verge of Chaos [4])
FOTD -- March 25, 2002 (Rating 4) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: There are rumors that I am running out of enthusiasm for the FOTD, that the interval between FOTD's will gradually grow longer until that day arrives when the FOTD shall be no more. These unfounded rumors must be laid to rest. True, it has been four days since the last FOTD. This delay has been because of an unexpected work load, the preparation of the FOTD CD, and a sudden burst of activity on the philofractal list, which despite my best intentions, I simply cannot tear myself from. The delay does not indicate an impending boredom on my part with fractals or the FOTD. Indeed, when the CD is ready, the FOTD will return to its daily schedule. Today's image is a return to the area of the M-set where chaos begins. The elements surrounding the midget have already largely disintegrated into chaos, leaving only, zig-zag arms and a few flat areas. The next image, which is due on the 27th, will be one fully immersed in chaos. I could rate today's image, which I named "The Verge of Chaos", no higher than a 4. But do not despair, far better things are to come. The render time of 4 minutes can be escaped by downloading the finished image from Paul's web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> or from Scott's site at: <http://sdboyd.dyndns.org/~sdboyd/fotd/index.html> The weather Sunday was chilly, but sunny and pleasant, with a cat-pleasing temperature of 59F 15C. And I've got so much to do that if I don't get started, I'll never finish. Until next time, take care, and look for a photograph of myself in the near future. Until the photo appears, go with your mental image. I hope you will be making that available to add to the FOTD hosting on both sites. I have been trying to get a picture of you, and the dynamic duo, for several years now. Even offered to buy a camera and film to send to you once. :-) Anyway, hope it is the real near future, in the terms of days as opposed to months and years. Who knows how much longer any of us have to live, and we might miss this. ;-} Later, P.N.L. -------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.fractalus.com/cgi-bin/theway?ring=fractals&id=43&go

Jim: I don't wish to be accused of "Boogeyizm" by the "Multiples" of the Fractint list, but I'm not sure what the big deal is with the FOTD CD, that it should take up huge amounts of your time. Don't you simply drag and drop all the files you wish to include on to your CD burner desktop icon, and then make copies? FWIW, IWYTK that FOTD makes a big difference to my day. More than any other daily internet offering, I look forward to viewing FOTD on either web site and derive great pleasure from doing so. Lately I've found it difficult to face these trying times without my regular FOTD fix. As a matter of fact, if there is no hope of getting FOTD on a more regular basis, I may have to get out my fractal razor blade and make a deep incision across Seahorse Valley :( Seriously though, just like a day without Bach and Mozart, a day without FOTD is like a day without sunshine. The universe <<will>> return to chaos if the high priest of FOTD neglects his daily ritual. Sincerely, David Boddington

Well.... the long awaited image is now available. I received it about two hours ago, but only now have it uploaded to the site. According to Jim: "The photo was unposed and was taken around the time I started the FOTD." Anyway, since the image is of about the same time period as the first FOTD, I have included it with that posting: http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD_97-04-12.html Sincerely, P.N.L. -------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.fractalus.com/cgi-bin/theway?ring=fractals&id=43&go

I think the obviously unposed nature of this long-withheld photo virtually demands a caption contest. I'll throw in an autographed copy of Mandelbrot's original Fractal book (but who among doesn't have one already?) as a "Grand Prize".
