Good news for you guys, here's hoping things get back to normal, but I wonder ... New Orleans still has a long way to go!
The short answer is Houston has a huge number of trees down and power out over most of the city. Power is being restored fairly slowly. However Houston will recover fine. The coastal areas such as Galveston have been devastated like the worst areas in New Orleans and will take years to recover. My workplace (NASA) is apparently little damaged but has no power or water, so I am out until at least Monday. Very possibly won't have my own power back until then, but I walked over to the University of Houston campus to send this. UH has power and is open. Tim

Just after sending this, my power came on. Thanks for indulging me in this bit off off topic reporting.
nothing´s off topic. Its a "normal" chaos, just like the financial situation in the US. Like a Lorenz fractal with 3 attractors: 1) Money, 2) Global Warming, 3) Idiocy in Politics. (...).
Tim
very best regards and good luck to you.. Cheers, Guy

While I don't agree that NOTHING is off topic, your point is well taken. The random effects of 110 mph gusts is chaos at it's most vivid. Overturned trees, shingles torn off a roof, chaos everywhere! But money, global warming, and idiocy in polictics probably are off topic :-) Tim
Tim, You maintain the program, that this list is about, therefore what ever you say is "at least" somewhat on topic. The very possibility of losing the main author of the program and any updates on the conditions you live in after a major weather event such IKE makes it relavant.
