The short answer is Houston has a huge number of trees down and power out over most of the city. Power is being restored fairly slowly. However Houston will recover fine. The coastal areas such as Galveston have been devastated like the worst areas in New Orleans and will take years to recover.

My workplace (NASA) is apparently little damaged but has no power or water, so I am out until at least Monday. Very possibly won't have my own power back until then, but I walked over to the University of Houston campus to send this. UH has power and is open.
