FOTD -- November 14, 2014 (Rating A-8,M-6)
Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
Today's image is a scene deep in the Z^(2.003)+C Mandeloid.
This is the same expression that creates the Julia sets with the
strange rectangles. But there are no rectangles in today's
image, since the parent fractal was calculated two levels up the
complex logarithmic hyperladder, where it appears as a near
perfect Mandelbrot set rotated so that the main spike points
southeast.
Today's scene lies in what would normally be the northeast shore
line of the main bay of the M-set, but in today's abnormal
rotation, this area of the northeast shore line lies on the
negative X-axis. Today's image lies in this area, very close to
the X-axis, which is acting like a cutoff point, causing the
surroundings to surge inward toward the minibrot.
The sparkling effects were created by rendering the image with
the outside set to the 'real' option and the inside set to a
brilliant white. The name "The Great Luau" has no relation to
the appearance of the image or to a Hawaiian feast. It simply
came to mind out of nowhere, and means nothing.
The art rating of an 8 might be a bit too liberal, while the
math rating of a 6 might be too conservative. It is up to the
individual viewer to decide what the image is actually worth.
The calculation time of 1-1/2 minutes is fast enough to keep
impatience at bay. And visiting the web sites will make
calculation totally unnecessary.
Escape calculation by viewing the finished image online at:

It felt like a midwinter day here at Fractal Central today. The
brisk northwest wind made the temperature of 39F +4C feel more
like zero, (F or C, take your choice), while the dark scudding
clouds were a sign that real winter is nigh. The fractal cats,
who are almost always nigh, did not concern themselves with the
outdoor conditions. They had a bigger job making sure that the
food was nigh. The fractal humans did nothing worth reporting.
The next FOTD will be posted, this much is sure, but there is no
guarantee when it will appear. Until whenever, take care, and
always be aware of those who would violate our rights, but be
sure you accuse the true violators.

FOTD -- November 13, 2014 (Rating A-7,M-7)
Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
I have heard that my recent FOTD images have displayed a
preponderance of deep blue shades, which indicate that my mood
could be less than totally cheerful. So today's image is
flooded with brilliant reds, not that this has anything to do
with cheerful feelings
Minibrots of the sixth order are usually not very interesting.
To put it bluntly, they all look the same. But today's sixth
order minibrot is quite interesting. The reason is that it is
not exactly of the sixth order and that the parent fractal was
calculated at a level exactly one-half rotation up the
logarithmic hyper-spiral. The scene lies at the edge of the
infinitely divided short main stem of the parent, which not
surprisingly points out along the positive east extent of the
X-axis.
I have checked similar areas of near-quadratic fractals in the
past, but never a fractal with an exponent of 6.0000001. The
result is today's image, which rates a 7 both for the art and
math.
The name "Hyperhexabrot" refers to the exponent of Z, which is
slightly greater than the integer value 6.
The calculation time of 1-1/2 minutes will cause no distress,
and those who do the calculation will have the satisfaction of
having created a fractal image that before today no living being
has ever seen. The more humble fractalists can make their lives
easier by checking the web sites.
The finished image is posted online at:

The heavy clouds, brisk chilly winds and temperature of 45F +7C
left lots to be desired here at Fractal central today. The
fractal cats, who would have liked more sun, were cranky. The
fractal humans would have liked less work.
The next FOTD will be posted in a certain length of time. Until
that length of time passes, take care, and try hard to make
sense of the puzzling things of existence.

FOTD -- November 11, 2014 (Rating A-7,M-7)
Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
Today's image shows an augmented minibrot lying at the edge of
the infinitely divided main spike of the Z^(2.0000001)+C
antimandeloid. The name "Minibrot Plus" indicates that this
minibrot has quite a bit of 'extra' stuff floating around it.
An 'antimandeloid' is the name I have given to mandeloid
fractals with fractional exponents of Z as they appear
3.14159... levels up the complex hyperladder, where they are
rotated 180 degrees. In today's case, there is little change
visible on the surface of the parent other than the rotation,
but deep inside things are entirely different.
The art and math both rate a 7, indicating that there is enough
interest to make a quick look worthwhile, but not enough to get
excited about. The fast calculation time of 1-1/6 minutes will
make running the parameter file a simple task. But who runs
parameter files with the web sites so close at hand.

A cloudless sky, warm sun, gentle breezes and a temperature of
63F 17C made today about as good as it can get in this part of
the world at this time of the year. The fractal cats enjoyed
things to the fullest, alternating between sleeping and soaking
up sun. The fractal humans simply made it through the day,
though I did take a brief walk to the nearby river at sunset to
check the ducks and watch the sun go down.
The next FOTD will be posted in two days on November 13. Until
then, take care, and in a couple years we will elect the next
big brother, or perhaps a big sister.

FOTD -- November 10, 2014 (Rating A-8,M-7)
Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
To create today's image I checked the Z^(2.003)+C Mandeloid
3.14159... levels up the hyperspiral, where the whole fractal is
rotated 180 degrees, and checked to see what happens in the area
of the strange rectangle. Not surprisingly, I found the
rectangle gone, replaced by a field of sparkling bits and pieces
with minibrots scattered generously. Today's scene shows one of
these minibrots.
The name "In Reverse" refers to the total reversal of the parent
Mandeloid. The art worth of an 8 seems about right. The math
worth of a 7 suffers because there is nothing really new in the
calculation math.
The calculation time of 36 seconds is mercifully brief, but
there is still a parameter file to set up and run. The web
sites can handle this setup problem however.

Lots of sun and a temperature of 61F 16C made today the most
pleasant in several weeks here at Fractal Central. The fractal

while the fractal humans had too much other work to finish to
take much advantage of the sun.
