In a few days I´ll be on a longer trip probably until end of may. Taking this as a reason to post some smaller and 2 bigger updates taking MFR_14 to it´s final state. Probably this is not the last one as I´m just a human beeing and produce errors. ; As some kind of reference there are 15 (!) images in the folder, 1 for each frm and it´s versions. The parfiles have been "cleaned" so they just contain inputs for the relevant image, but all bailout values that are very rarely changed, are there for easy switching, to accomodate the frm. Number 1 is the smallest bailout. Check the input table for quick reference. ; Now all frms can be edited for modification in 3 ways: Color compression, function or both. Inspite of the updates the frm has become smaller to completely avoid memory crashes. ; The warp effect update involves some incompatibilities, Julia Magnet and Lambda which could not be avoided, so keep a backup of earlier versions, just in case. ; The number or the pars equals the number of the participating frm and is also shown as title of an image - last example 56418-xx means manymods-phoenix-manowar- secant-magnet so the title shows the kind of the image. ; Including the pars and the frm in this post as I dont know how long Dropbox can be used, it has changed it´s attitude again from security to forced adware installing. Every programmer knows: You must never state that the software is finalized - that´s the safest way to face bugs afterwards. Jonathan, if he is reading will confirm rhis is a fact. Yesterday, half an hour after doing so - BOING! memory crash. It needed some hours meditating - the best time is early in the morning still in bed - to find a solution. A block of code including some variables and speedups of the mainloop could be replaced by more effective code, so no more memory problems (hopefully). The image of yesterday´s type, "exploded colors" is extra special as it covers the complete spectrum of any SG map, so colorcycling only produces some kind of flicker. The difference of the otherwise - in this context - similar maps is a different order and organization. In the folder you find some variations of this iomage. Some fine-tuning you can do if you wish with Dosbox+Fractint: If you are in FULLSCREEN and want to change to a smaller window -- Press "Alt+Enter" which will change it to a Window, probably too large. So then in the Dosbox menu at the top-left click "Video>Resolution>Window" and click "Original"... then in Fractint set your resolution (Mode) to the window size you want. Then after working with your fractal in the lower, faster mode you can change it back to SF10, or even higher modes with more than 256 colors (32k, 64k or even 16m colors, at least in smaller windows like 800x600, and if your adapter can handle them). The second fine-tune you can do if you want a BEEP when Fractint finishes do this: In your DOSBox Folder find "dosbox.conf" and open it as text. Make the following 2 changes: Scroll down about 1/3 to " nosound=true" and change it to nosound=false and Scroll down about 2/3 to "pcspeaker=false" and change it to pcspeaker=true The result will not be the old beeps from your PC speaker, but one sound, like a "tap" from your desktop speakers when Fractint finishes its final pass. ******************************* I have been corresponding with kolano, the author, and he gave me the abovementioned tips. He also says he is working on an update to the program. ****************************** I am still very happy that I've finally been able to use Fractint and in many modes. But yes, I think it's slow... yet "slow" is better than nothing. I am no programmer so I wish that hoffentlich someone like you Niekamp, could work with kolano to improve his program.
