Is there a way mto make this run in 64 Bit Win 7? FOTD -- October 19, 2010 (Rating 6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: The name of today's image -- "Evaporated but Present" -- gives away the big secret -- the image is an evaporated one. The one- googol value of the imag(p3) parameter is yet another give-away. The scene lies in the same indescribable parent fractal as yesterday's image, though in a different part. In its entirety, this parent is truly indescribable, but it does somewhat resemble a snowman that has toppled over and is lying flat with its head facing east. The rating of a 6 was held back because the colors seem a little washed out, but a rating of a 6 is still above average, and with a calculation time of only 1 minute, what is there to lose. Perhaps the best way to view the finished image is to surf virtually out to the FOTD web site at: <http://www.Nahee.com/FOTD/> and ogle the finished product there. Lots of clouds, occasional sprinkles of rain, and a chilly temperature of 52F 11C spoiled things here at Fractal Central on Monday. The fractal cats spent most of the morning squatted down in the sulk position, so I suppose they got no more enjoy- ment from the conditions than the humans did. Both my day and FL's day went along uneventfully. The next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours. FOTD -- October 18, 2010 (Rating 6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Most of the worth of today's image came about when I rendered it with the inside set to 'bof60' and the outside set to 'tdis'. The image itself consists of about half inside and half outside stuff. The parent fractal is one of those indescribably complex things that result when both exponents of Z have negative values and (1/C) is added. The name "Away on a Dry Wind" came to mind first when I tried to find a name for the image. I can see little connection to the actual image however. The rating of a 6 is just enough above the routine average to make the 3-1/6 minutes required to run the parameter file worth the effort. The finished image is available for instant viewing on the FOTD web site at: <http://www.Nahee.com/FOTD/> and no password is needed. Sunday here at Fractal Central was near perfect. FOTD -- October 17, 2010 (Rating 7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: This FOTD is late because I spent too much time on Saturday involved in pondering. I see on the list that Mr. Mandelbrot has moved on to whatever comes after this life for mathematicians. As far as I observed, his passing was little noted in the general news, which as always, seems more concerned with political polls and the con- trived adventures of the current pop celebrities. My thoughts about the event are that if I had designed mankind, I would have given him a few more, no a lot more, prime-of-life years on earth. I have always grumbled that we don't learn how to properly live life on earth until it's too late to benefit from what we have learned. All we can do is try to pass on to our children what we have learned. But what a waste of effort. Today's middling fractal is another one that rates a 7. It's actually an image of an order-7 minibrot in the vicinity of an anti-minibrot. I named it "Flower of Fertility". Who knows why. And I rated it at a 7 because that's what I consider it to be worth. The calculation time of 30 seconds is so brief that even if the result is disappointing, it will have almost been worth the effort. Today's post marks the passing of Benoit Mandelbrot, father of fractal geometry. As a tribute to Benoit Mandelbrot's contribution to the field of fractal geometry today's fractal image is of the default original Mandelbrot set. The plotting does not use the usual inside and outside mappings but rather uses the distance estimator method with a two color map. This plotting method was chosen because I find it enhances the demonstration of the complexity of the basic Mandelbrot set. According to the Fractint manual "The distance estimator method widens very thin "strands" which are part of the "inside" of the set. Here is a fractal I have been using to test improvements to Fracton's 3D Model Export. I switched from a grid based approach to a more sophisticated algorithm that searches for the edges of the fractal.
