FOTD -- September 28, 2011 (Rating 8) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: With today's moderately deep image (thus the name) we finally escape the string of 7-rated images that were merely average. We check the fractal 'star' of a period-5 sub-bud on the northwest shore line of the largest bud of the largest minibrot on the main spike of the Mandelbrot set. The 10^(15) magnitude of the image is just beyond the limit of conventional math, yet the image requires over 65 minutes to calculate. I have calculated images in the 10^(75) range that finish in 1/4 the time of today's image. Most of the impact of the image is due to the coloring, and most of the coloring is due to the Fractint program, not the fastest but arguably still the best. I did tweak a few registers however, so I have the right to claim a little credit. Since Jim said that the mathematic plan we explore have no mass and no weight, following the two sequence i send, we could start to speculate. Poeticaly, this plan of mathematic have more weight when he is static, lighter airborn... Fractal ? first question i had to my(s) teacher was what it mean?, since i had no answer thru america fractal where fractal... i Taught Fractional integer has the right Word to put full on...And in case you did'nt know?! Considering that we are about 5000 on earth.... FOTD -- September 27, 2011 (Rating 7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image is a scene in the parent fractal that results when the expression Z^(1.99)+C is iterated at ground level with the 'recip' function applied. This parent resembles a Mandelbrot set rotated about 15 degrees CCW so that the negative X-axis cuts through the northwest shore line of the large period-2 bud. The image is located in the area of this intersection, where things always go a bit goofy. I named the image "Jewel of the Deep" when the bright patches reminded me of something like pearls lying on the sea floor. Yes, I know pearls don't just lie on the sea floor, waiting to be picked up. They are formed in oysters. The rating of a 7 is getting to be a habit, but who can complain about an image a full 2 points above average. The calculation time of 2-2/3 minutes is a fair price for an image with a rating of a 7. . I'am frenchy so correct my english if you feel it not good enought. First to everybody, i like to present, I pick up fractint in 1993 attending to college in electronic and informatic. At the time my relation with english was not good enought to read manual so i just explore the matematic environment build in. In 2002 has a new bilingual i start to developpe and explore thru this wonderful mathematic univers. I feel we are like astronomer in a univers of ever expanding geometrie. The discovery are daily and the relation we can make with the natural reality are vaste. FOTD -- September 25, 2011 (Rating 7.5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image is the hinted-at zoom into yesterday's image, to a depth where the central minibrot becomes well-resolved. At this depth the filaments have almost totally degenerated into masses of chaos, though filament signs are still visible. The shape of concentric circles that is formed by the chaos surrounding the minibrot in today's image is typical of the patterns in very deep minibrot basins. I emphasized the chaos in the image by rendering the scene with a random color palette and by not using the logmap feature. The logmap renderings do bring out the remaining filamentary nature of the scene. The name "Zigging and Zagging-2" could also be something like 'Son of Zigging and Zagging' or 'Curse of Zigging and Zagging', but these names are too long to fit into the 18-character limit set aside for the parameter name. The rating of 7-1/2 includes a half-point for the coloring, which is marginally better than yesterday's. Being deeper than yesterday's image, today's is also slower, taking a full 33-1/2 minutes to finish. Do not bother to switch to the passes=g option. In this particular image it is no faster than passes=1. FOTD -- September 26, 2011 (Rating 7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's very deep Mandelbrot scene lies on a filament sprouting from a minor period-5 bud on the northwest shore line of the large period-2 bud of the set. I named the image "A Wheel of Numbers" for very good reasons. The elements certainly are in the shape of a wheel, and fractals certainly are made of numbers The rating of an average FOTD 7 might have been higher if I had put more effort into the coloring. But today is tax day, and paying four-digit taxes always makes me irritable, which is a poor mood for creating fine fractal art. The calculation time of 48 minutes is slow, and there is no excuse. They sometimes say that anything worth having is worth waiting for, but this is not always true. Will the much- ballyhooed soon-to-arrive end of the world have been worth the wait when and if it actually arrives? FOTD -- September 24, 2011 (Rating 7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: In today's FOTD we return to the depths of the Mandelbrot set, where we check a filament connected to the period-5 bud on the northwest shore line of the main bay. Minibrots lying on filaments are usually surrounded by branching networks of bare sub-filaments. At the depth of today's image however, the bare filaments have blossomed into zigzagging fields of debris. At an even greater depth, the zigzag filaments vanish almost entirely, leaving only the debris, which forms itself into unexpected patterns. I might venture down there in tomorrow's FOTD, or I might not. I have not decided. The name "Zigging and Zagging" refers to the zigzag streams of debris around the edges of the frame. The rating of a 7 is average. If I had put more effort into the coloring, I might have worked the image up to a 7.5 or even an 8. The potential for a higher rating is there. As is true of all very deep images, the calculation time is rather slow. In today's image it is almost 22 minutes, long enough to cause those with busy schedules to become impatient.
